Breaking: Punjab Slaps 3G/4G, Imposes 19.5% Taxes on Internet Usage including PTCL Broadband/EVO

tax on wealthiest???seriously??
wealthy people who make 1,000,000 rupees or more a month would not even give a damn if they pay 20 rupees extra. its the poor class people who earn 10,000 rupees a month and for them its just another fist on the face. these crocks if wants to tax wealthiest why don't they widen the direct tax net on wealthy people instead putting more burden on poor people.

Here's how skewed up your logic is. This tax in question, for people to exceed 2 MB of broadband usage.....is for people like you and others on here, who live in their parents expensive homes, in AC and spend their lives bashing others.
For the ordinary 170 million Pakistan, there is pretty much no need to go beyond 2 MB. 2 MB is a good enough spectrum for Skype, Viber or other voice calling, Text Messages or Checking Yahoo mail. Anything beyond that, it luxury like people who spend hours on here for example and can afford to do so.

So yes, this tax isn't for the poor as the poor and average Pakistanis don't need to use more than 2 MB data. Beyond that should have heavy tax on such items so the tax revenue can exceed. The funny part is, every time these things happen, the average Pakistanis don't really complain too much as it's not applicable to them. The ones who complain......are the one's who are rich!!!! Go figure that out. Do you really think an average Pakistani making 10,000 - 20,000 rupees (or below that), raising a family of a couple of children can afford 1500 or 2000 rupees worth of internet every months like 25% of what they make??? NO!!!! That is a luxury and used primarily by the rich. So yea, more taxes on people who've made so many millions over decades, by avoiding taxes. That's one of the core ways to bring up the lower class up and provide better basic needs to the poor, which are about 75% of the Pakistani population.

Learn the difference between direct and indirect taxation... And do explain reducing taxes on sectors which are profitable while taxing those who already pay taxes... this budget is a farce

On the first line on learning the difference: :omghaha::omghaha::omghaha::omghaha:

Next, this broadband tax is an indirect tax on the riches. That's how you get tax on items that are luxurious in nature and get the rich to pay that. You realize Pakistani government is getting a lot of help from the US and other bigger nations on auditing and streamlining the tax code, you'll see a lot of changes to the tax code where a lot more tax will be generated to provide for people's basic needs, in the next few years.

Next, in an overall weaker economy, when a few things are profitable and the rest are not, you can't give tax relief to ones which are profitable. You have to bring the economy to a growth baseline, and once you hit that, you then focus on certain aspects of growth and start to give tax breaks to areas already very profitable. That way, you are keeping everything in perspective.

.
On you simpleton living outside passing judgement on us people without any idea about reality. PTCL itself started a program where it upgraded 2 MB connection to 4 in cities and said 4 MB would be the new baseline for all users. As for your logic it is flawed right there.
As far as skyping on 2MB, you are welcome to try, but the reality is that there is no way it happens decently. The adevrtised speed reaches no where near the given speed. And I do not mind paying taxes, I use an 8 MB connection, but the whole city of Lahore has been given promotions and upgraded for FREE to 4MB.....

So you tax those which are actually not in loss till the investors leave and settle in USA. shahbash, Wonderful logic

Listen you spend money to spend in Pakistan, it is invested and you buy things with it or it goes into a bank account... in very frank words kisi kay saar pay ehsan nahi kiya paisay bejh kay... Stop being an egotistical and judgemental...... complete that sentence yourself.. as for your earning more, wealth is measured in terms of standard of living, and there will be people who have a much better standard of living then you may have... And stop thinking money is everything also...

After listening to Dar's Budget speech, 10 month imports = 20 billion, 10 months remittances = 14.5 billion
I stand by every word I said as an answer to those unproductive nekamey who tell me i have no concern talking about Pakistan. Yes I spend money on myself and on my family, but that money I spend is running your economy. just like you keep reminding govt "my tax money, my tax money" you are not doing ehsan by paying mere few thousand in taxes and you want the entire Pakistan to go your way.

listen you arrogant snob, yes you do bring money to country to buy your pretty dresses and whatever you do with the money, you pay for things and the money is a drop in a vast ocean. Your contributions we can live without, so stop acting all prissy here. As far as your taxes argument goes, the budget in no way is poor or middle class friendly, all it does is benefit certain sectors even more then it is already doing. As far as taxes go, you pay taxes but reap benefits they tax your cigs but they give you world class medical care in its place, they tax your income but give you quality education. You are just a disenchanted Pakistani who left their country and now watch the news and think they are in touch with reality

.
I guess there's nothing wrong with these taxes as Pak has one of the lowest internet rates for $ 18 one can get 20 gb at a speed of 30-40 mbps its really cool.

exactly, your tax money Pakistan can live without so stop yelling my tax money everytime you see someone using two toilet papers. Budgets are never poor friendly, budget is to calculate your income and then budget your expenses accordingly but when a country produces only x and and imports x+100 then your budgeting goes down the toilet. how do you think Dar will make up the difference of 100, but shitting dollars?

I am sure this thread started with taxing internet and I am also sure we are arguing this because you dont support this tax, yet you keep refering to canada's taxes and benefits. do you know how much we pay in taxes? what you pay in taxes is a drop in the ocean as compare to what we pay here in Canada...and then we get services, but you cry about every tax yet you want the world for few rupee of taxes you are paying. Give a demand to your govt that this is what we want in services so charge us whatever in taxes and once you pay those taxes and you dont get service then you have a right to complain...at this point you have no right to complain.

by the way just you said you dont need my money, ask your finance minister to tell ex-pats not to send money we dont need it.

stop being so conceited about the money you have spent, and sent here... Get here and help practically on the ground, or give it to NGOs and even then do not brag about it.... and also stop thinking others are without kin and have never sent money to the country or have no stake in the ex-pat remittances.....

Budgets are people friendly when they are claimed in the first line of the budget to be that stop being a blind follower, I wonder if you have actually read the budget or are just going on and on with no reason

I have nothing against this tax, I have it against the exemptions which the government has given sectors again and again. What type of economy are we, answer me this? if we take our major export what would it be? what is the formula of taxing the sector which we spend most on?

to the man with little understanding:
when you are arguing on a topic and you say "you" then you mean the group you represent. when I say "I" i meant the group i represent...you have to be a real idiot to think I sent $14 billion to Pakistan.

Listen I will brag about it, its my hard earned money, I could buy cheaper and better products but I go to Pakistani store and buy only Pakistani products i don't look at the price but I look at the made in Pakistan label, half of the things we buy are never used. I never fly any other airline but PIA regardless of the condition of their planes. Half of your economy is running on ex-pats you ungrateful bunch.

what a moron and stupid person you are man. talk about sense and don't need to drag my personal life into your shitty comment. i am a common man who gets effected with these increases while you seem to be very well off living in USA in some big *** mansion.
now answer to your moronic logic of a poor person don't need more then 2 MB data. i mean what on earth is wrong with your head mate. even a good quality pic uses more data then this and here you are telling me that poor people should not be using more then 2 MB. so according to you poor people have not right to use more internet? if they do then tax them? if a person uses more then 3 MB he becomes a rich guy? YOU SUPPORTER OF PMLN SERIOUSLY BLINDED IN SERVICE TO NS AND SS.
i have got no idea where did you come up with those rounded figures of paying 1500 rupees for internet do you know you can get 5 GB for less then 300 rupees a month? so for a poor person is it a sin if he uses that amount of internet that you have to put 20% tax on him? which means 60 rupees more? now a guy like you wouldn't have any problem paying those 60 rupees but for poor people its a lot. i wouldn't be surprised if now you come up in another post saying poor people don't have right to use more then 2 MB of internet. PATHETIC.

Your common sense or lack of it, is shown in ONE sentence of your post. Do you even know how broadband works? The MBPS is NOT a picture download or storage. It is THE BANDWIDTH!!!

If you guys don't know the basics, why even bother writing on a thread sounding experts???? Just write hateful comments to NS and his team and move on. Getting into scientific or detailed discussion when your head clearly can't sustain, or understand it, is a waste of everyone's time involved with this.

2 MB per SECOND is actually a VERY good speed and comes under lower 3G Spectrum. But what they are saying is, anyone wanting more than 2 MBPS (your youtube lovers, streamers, gamers), need to pay more as it becomes luxury at that point. 2 MBPS is more than enough to send many pictures and do voice and video calling, using online banking, even chatting with friends and family. Above 2 MB, its classified as a luxury for home, or for the business use. Which is how it works in ANY country. In the US, our 4G plans are priced higher and so it the tax included in them. There are plenty of members on here who can testify it from the US, etc.

Do me a favor, next time, try not to respond to me if you don't even have basics down on a topic. If you had done some basic research, you'd know how stupid and off topic you took your post to, without having a real idea about the issue you decided to get into an argument with others.

PTCL itself started a program where it upgraded 2 MB connection to 4 in cities and said 4 MB would be the new baseline for all users. As for your logic it is flawed right there.

Of course whether its PTCL or others....they would WANT to give others incentives to use a higher band. That's just how it works. They want to sell the higher speed and bandwidth as they've invested hundreds of millions into it. But that doesn't mean a poor person has to buy it. Its a luxury, if you want it, can afford it, TAKE the promotion and upgrade, like the rest of the world. And that means more taxes!!!
If you are poor and can't afford it, stay at the basic level, meaning less taxes as your needs are lowered. This is how it works in the entire US or UK or elsewhere too. Is it SUCH a complex logic that there are so many arguments from NS haters??? You can just write hateful comments and I won't respond to those. But writing technical details without using sense and blaming stuff on people isn't right. Posters should do their research and keep their political hate away from these scientific / technical issues.

Most people commenting here don't even understand the purpose of tax. And how that purpose has flaws in it.

4 MB needs you to be a constant pain to the PTCL customer service. They need to lay an optic network in your home, they need to reconnect your points in their boxes, and you need a dedicated phone line for your internet. After all of that I finally got decent internet which does not disconnect
And sure I will check if the bill has come and let you know when they do. But as for downgrading, that will just make them tax 2 MB connections soon because many consumers are considering that.
