India, Pakistan get full membership of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation - The Hindu


Russian President Vladimir Putin said India and Pakistan will join the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, a group dominated by Russia and China and also including former Soviet republics in Central Asia.

Russia sees the organisation as a counterweight to Western alliances.

Membership in the group potentially offers India greater access to the energy resources of Central Asia. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had combined his attendance at the summit in Russia with visits to SCO members Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.

Mr. Putin opened the annual summit on Friday by announcing the acceptance of India and Pakistan as members. He said Belarus would obtain observer status, joining Afghanistan, Iran and Mongolia.

The Russian President called for greater cooperation in fighting drug trafficking from Afghanistan and the financing of terrorism.

Enough talking. Both the countries should stop talking about each other and talking to each other for sometime and focus back at home.

I was going through the indicators this morning only, and they seem to be okay-ish, meaning if steps are not taken in time then we will be in trouble in near future.

China is not in South Asia. You will have to change the name of SAARC for that.
I'm in favour of dissolving SAARC altogether. We already have something new and crispy and most importantly, they have achievable goals.
Now that Pakistan became a part of SCO, I don't think Pakistan will have a problem with that either.

We dont have much issues with India , and India itself knows this. so why should they take any stance against us just to please Moscow and Beijing??

On another note, our leaders must be quite happy to see india and pakistan join. They might help us turn it into SAARC.
