BREAKING NEWS: Senegal invades Gambia

As far as I remember Yahya accepted the election outcome last year ....
He then changed his mind - 22 years in power, hard thing to give up

I await the announcement - 'Saudi Arabia has decided to offer asylum to deposed dictator Yahya Jammeh of Gambia'

Why not? KSA is in no position to determine who is a dictator and who is not. He should be welcomed like every Muslim leader who asked for refugee as has been the case historically.

You might not know this but even before the foundation of modern-day KSA in 1932, it's predecessor states, for instance the Kingdom of Hijaz and Sharifate of Makkah and Madinah, used to welcome Muslim leaders from across the Muslim world who were persecuted by either colonial powers or fellow Muslims. Be it Imam Shamil (ra) from Dagestan or the Senussi dynasty, last King of Libya and countless of others.

The only one I would have preferred that the House of Saud had not welcomed was Idi Amin who used to live in Jeddah. One of my older brothers knew one of his sons.

Idi Amin and family:

And of course the cancer named Ali Abdullah Saleh.

Seems you have a little idea of African politics. I have been to Zambia and Senegal myself. It's a very nice touristic country with lovely beach, landscape, wildlife and climate. Apart from that it's just a tiny country sandwiched inside Senegal. Lots of Brits do go there for holiday/have a good time. Our government has already issued travel warning to British citizen in Gambia and repatriated many just recently.

Hopefully we will see people here criticize evil Sénégal/African union for invading a peaceful prosperous Muslim country as well. :D:enjoy:

I know many people from Senegal from when I used to live in France. Great people and many speak Arabic as third or second language. Never been to Senegal or Gambia though. The closest I have been is Morocco.

Not sure why people turn this into a Muslim issue. It's just an internal Gambian conflict that now has outside involvement (Senegal and African Union) due to the geography of Gambia.

As for Sub-Saharan Africa, not an expert, but I consider myself well-versed in their history as well as recent politics. The fundamentals at least.

As far as Sub-Saharan Africa goes I am more familiar with the Swahili (Arabic name) coastline (Kenya and Tanzania) that I have visited. I want to visit Horn of Africa and a lot of regions in Sub-Saharan Africa but that is for another time.

That's sad, more bloodshed to come. They should try to resolve issues through Peaceful dialogue. Both countries will suffer if Senegal uses excessive force

Persecuted
Bloodshed

The Army is not going to stand with him....there is going to be minimal resistance, if any. How can people be so blind to the facts? A dictator who refused to honor the results of an election and hand over power...and declared a State of Emergency to try to clamp down on protesters is being removed.

That's a good thing.

Lol why are you surprise ?
Subsahara Africa is full of such greedy power hungry dictators who would rather destroy their natural country than give up power.
To be fair it's not just subsahara Africa that has such leaders. North African and middle eastern leaders also have such leaders . Just look at Assad clinging to power even after it has led to the total destruction of his country and the death of hundreds of thousands of his own people(probably a million deaths by the end of this decade at this rate). Lol Same with Algeria being ruled by an old (he's older than my grandfather LOL) crippled man that is so sick he can't even walk anymore but won't leave power. Or Mubarak of Egypt who after ruling from almost 35 years(before I was even born .Lol) and yet won't cede power after his people revolted and he would have gladly killed them all if not for his army refusing to kill his own people and toppling him . Etc etc. The region is full of such despots. It's unfortunate.
Anyway, they say the people get the government they deserve so I don't know to be honest. :)

So another muslim leader to be removed by force.
Senegal is Muslim and the Gambian leader was defeated by a Muslim candidate in the elections - so don't try to turn this into a religious conflict.

I feel sorry for Gambia,
Why that country even exist? Its like a country controlling a river or road in straight line :D

British/Colonialist tactics of forming countries in such a geographic manner that conflict will be inevitable, it also serves to deny some nations strategic land or resources to prevent it from becomming powerful. Another similar case is Iraq-Kuwait.

.
It's as valid as a country as yours is.
I doubt that.
Strategically such countries cannot exist considering the fact if they are surrounded like that with hostile neighbor.
BD is surrounded by India too, but still their situation is not as worse as of Gambia is.

Are you joking?? :cheesy:
"Dialogue" with dictators for them to leave power through peaceful means?
You will have to dialogue with them until their death(in power obviously).
Good luck with that. :enjoy:

@mike2000 is back

Was your wife not from either Senegal or Gambia btw?:-)

Have you visited her family yet? I imagine that this would be quite a cultural shock compared to the size of the average British/European family.

Anyway speaking about dictators in Africa.

Have you seen this before?

Surreal. Crowning himself as an emperor in the year 1976.

On the other hand if a dictator already, why not, lol?
