According to the Jewish history King David was not allowed to build the Temple because he had too much blood on his hands. Although the moon is not the same thing as the temple, the symbolic value of a successful landing would have brought enormous honor to Nethanyahu and the nation of israel.
But just like king David, he too has too much blood on his hands.
