Canada’s global aviation firm Bombardier is reportedly planning to launch its own airline in Iran – a groundbreaking move that could help boost air trips between Iran and Northern America.

Bloomberg in a report has announced that officials from Iran’s Qeshm Free Trade Zone had recently met Pierre Beaudoin, executive chairman of Bombardier’s board, on a project to set up an airline in the southern Qeshm island.

The island, located in the Persian Gulf, needs to invest in air transportation as part of plans to boost revenue from tourism, Bloomberg quoted an unnamed Iranian official as saying.

Qeshm Free Zone officials have held talks with several companies though they are keen to reach an agreement with Bombardier within the next two month, the report added.

No details have still come out about the cost of the project nor the scope of Bombardier’s possible involvement.

“We’ve had continued discussions, they’re exploratory discussions, with a number of people there for transport solutions required for the region and what we can offer,” Marianella de la Barrera, Bombardier’s manager for public affairs and communications, has told Bloomberg.

While confirming Beaudoin’s travel to Iran, she declined to comment on the content of the talks. The company has “identified significant opportunities in the region with regards to commercial aviation sector,” she said.

Iranian officials have already emphasized that the country will need to buy 500 commercial jets of various models for various short-, medium- and long-distance routes.

Iran has already signed a deal worth $27 billion with Airbus to purchase 118 new planes. It has also conducted advanced trade talks with Boeing.

I doubt the bombardier move increase trip between Iran and Canada but it can be good advertisement for their airplanes in Iranian market.

That is exactly what it is. They miserably missed the boat thanks to former prime minister. Iran is a great potential market for their new product "The C series" which they have a very hard time to sell as they are entering the market of big guys like Boeing and Airbus.

So now, they can put at least 2 or 3 of the new C series in a line between Iran and Canada which they know will be a busy line and this way both market their product and make money out of it.

Seems like at least someone in Bombardier is using his/her brain.

CS300 has a range of 3300 NM or 6112 km and a capacity of 150 passengers. As you mentioned, they can't fly directly from Tehran to Toronto but these days all of the travels between Iran and Canada happens with a stop in Europe. It has a specially designed PW jet engine with the highest bypass ratio in the market making it extremely quiet and very fuel efficient. So it can easily cross the Atlantic ocean if it needs to. The questions is whether it is worth doing it with only 150 passengers but regardless it makes a perfect jet for travel between Iran-Europe or Iran - East Asia:

As a rule never use an airplane at its maximum range.

This deal is far fetched , there currently exists no canadian embassy or consulate in iran , US-iranian relation are obviously warmer than canada , justin trudeau promised to open an embassy in tehran , but he's yet to fulfill his promise , canada has more zionists per capita than america

stephen harper was the statue of liberty compared to justin trudeau , he might be a self labled liberal , but smug defines him better

No one uses a regional jet in an intercontinental flight.

IranAir has ordered A330 (both CEO and NEO varients) as well as A-350 for such routs.Mahan Already has so many A-340-600s.Bombardier CSs can be used in regional flights mostly.also no one knows which type is desired by Iranians airlines.it might be Q400 as well.
