Boeing Unveils New Stealthy F-15 (F-15SE)

i can't see it how this can be a stealth
if so can this idea can be coperated on the f-16

I would like to know the performance against the f22 rapture

Israel interested in Silent Eagle

Facing soaring costs and American opposition to the integration of Israeli systems into the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter, the Israel Air Force is showing some interest in Boeing's new F-15 Silent Eagle (F-15SE), The Jerusalem Post reported yesterday.

The F-15SE is a new configuration of the F-15 which has undergone improvements and modifications that could give the plane a stealth capability.

Improvements in stealth include coatings and treatments to the aircraft as well as a new design for the conformal fuel tanks that allows them to carry weapons rather than fuel.

Israel operates several squadrons of F-15s, including one of 25 F-15Is, the aircraft with the longest range in the IAF.

The Silent Eagle will be capable of carrying internally air-to-air missiles, as well as air-to-ground weapons such as the Joint Direct Attack Munition (JDAM) and Small Diameter Bomb (SDB).

Defense Ministry Director-General Pinchas Buhris was scheduled to travel to the United States on Monday for talks at the Pentagon about the F-35.

Buhris will also seek to receive assurances from the new administration that the US will continue to fund the development of the Arrow 3 missile defense system.

Israel's interest in the new F-15SE stems from a number of considerations, but primarily from expected delays in the delivery of the JSF as well as the Pentagon's opposition to Israel's request to install Israeli-made systems in the aircraft, which is under development by Lockheed Martin.

While Israel decided last year to purchase the F-35, if political disagreements over the integration of systems continued, officials said it was possible interest in the newly-modified F-15SE would increase.

The Jerusalem Post first reported on the US opposition in February. In addition, the price of the F-35 is expected to pass the $100 million mark and would only arrive in Israel - if a deal is signed in the coming months - in 2014.

According to media reports, the new F-15SE will cost less and could arrive in Israel as early as 2011.

There is also an option to upgrade existing F-15s to the Silent Eagle model at a much lower cost. The US Air National Guard is also considering upgrading existing aircraft instead of purchasing new fifth-generation planes like the JSF and the F-22.

at $100million a piece i dont see hot its a "cheaper" approach to stealth. when according to Wikipedia f-35 costs $83 million a piece. and they forgot Saudis have already ordered Euro fighter Typhoon.

Thats the new build price. retrofits would cost less.

I for one would love to know how the wargames against the F-22's would go with this bird......

Devil's advocate here:

Sexy looking snake oil.

Nice paint job.

Stealthy Eagle huh?

Notice it's an "export only" model?

USAF has no interest in it anyway..

Marketing, marketing, marketing.....

Naaaahhh! Trying to put new tyres or a aluminum grill on an old grandpa's Volkswagon Foxy does not make it cool! The F-15SE may be to utilize the remaining platforms in a new light, in comparison to the Obama's policy of reduction in defense budgets which affects the F-22 Raptor program. This F-15SE is just a temporary measure to prolong the death of an otherwise well used F-15 platform. And please calling this aircraft 'Stealth' is an affront to the technological expression!

The word 'stealth' is quite overused to the point of meaninglessness. External stores are the greatest contributors of an aircraft's RCS value and that include the pylons that holds them. Cover up the entire assembly and there will be a noticeable reduction in overall RCS value.

if so can this idea can be coperated on the f-16
Not possible because of the F-16's single vertical stabilator. It is difficult to believe, but with the new canted twin vertical stabs, the F-15SE's tail section probably matches that of the F-16's in terms of overall RCS contributorship. The F-16 is already quite small radar-wise.

The F-15's airframe is quite robust. Internalizing weapons and additional fuel stores reduces drag. Further, those external stores induces centrifugal stresses during maneuvers. Moving them closer to the main body reduces those stresses, prolonging airframe life. Perhaps calling this version 'stealth' may be a stretch, but more 'stealthy' than its predecessors is appropriate.
