The Boeing Co. this week offered further detail to a tentative agreement with Iran for aircraft sales, saying the proposed deal between the two sides would involve a mix of direct sales and leases.

According to a report from the Wall Street Journal, Boeing (NYSE: BA) offered up in a letter to lawmakers that voiced their worries over the deal that agreement included 80 sales valued at $17.6 billion.

The company also said it would also help state-owned Iran Air lease 29 new aircraft, all 737s.

Of the direct sales, 40 would be for the 737 MAX and six of the current Next-Generation 737 model, 15 for the the 777-300ER and 15 for the coming 777-9X.

The order would also include four 747-8s.

Each of the aircraft would arrive in Iran with ties to Wichita, where Spirit AeroSystems Inc. (NYSE: SPR) has work on all Boeing commercial programs.

That includes building about 70 percent of the both the Next-Generation and MAX models of the narrow-body 737.

The deliveries would run through 2025.

But the deal — which evolved from the eased sanctions on Iran in the wake of the Obama administration’s nuclear accord with Tehran — still faces hurdles, both in terms of financing and legislative backing, with Boeing reportedly writing in its letter to the lawmakers that it would cease to do business with any customer or country that was at any time no longer approved by the U.S government.

Boeing’s rival, Airbus, announced a 118-plane order from Iran in January, one it is still working to finalize.

I have a question why not go for Airbus? Considering the amount of financial pain caused by american why reward them with such a big contract?

They went for Airbus as well.

Iran is going to buy both Airbus and Boeing aircraft.

I guess the Iranians want to please both the Americans and Europeans at the same time.

Bear in mind that it's in Iran's interest to make as many deals as possible with American companies before Obama leaves office. This will make it much harder for successive presidential administrations to reverse the Iran nuclear deal.

Because Iran needs passenger aircraft as soon as possible and almost none of those are selling. Only Russia has the SSJ-100 and the MC-21, which are regional airliners. They don't have the long haul aicraft like Boeing 777s or A350s that Boeing and Airbus make by the thousands.

We've bought A350s :)

well that makes sense now.

Bro, are you aware of any 747-8's (passenger) available for immediate delivery?
Don't know but , it seems some Gulf Shiekh ordered custom built.

A Boeing 747-8 Intercontinental airliner taxis before taking off at Paine Field in Everett, Washington, yesterday. It will undergo extensive modifications before it is delivered to an undisclosed VIP customer

Boeing has taken 36 orders - nine from non-airline customers - for the aircraft, which lists at $332.9million. So, 9 goes for personal use. Some rich people ordered.

The first airline set to receive the plane is Germany's Deutsche Lufthansa AG, which has ordered 20. Boeing has not set a delivery date for Lufthansa's first Intercontinental.

The Intercontinental incorporates some of the technology of the lightweight, carbon-composite 787 Dreamliner.

It can seat 467 passengers, 51 more than the current version of the 747, but fewer than the competing 525-seat A380.

By some estimates, the new 747-8 is 8 to 10 tonnes overweight.

Elizabeth Lund, 747 program manager, acknowledged the plane is heavier than originally planned. But she said a redesigned wing makes up for the weight in terms of performance.

Additional weight can reduce the distance a plane can fly or the amount of cargo it can carry.

The freighter version of the 747-8 was first delivered in October. Orders for the freighter have been strained by an economic downturn that has dampened cargo markets.

Boeing made first delivery of its 787 Dreamliner last year after three years of delays. The 787 represents a bigger leap in technology than the 747-8.

Yes. Some Russian airline called Transaero ordered 4 of them and Boeing built 2 of them before the airline went bankrupt. So there are 2 airframes ready and just awaiting interior customization. Iran Air will probably get those 2 and wait for another 2 later.
