U.S. aircraft manufacturer Boeing Co plans to bid for two defence projects in India worth $2 billion in the next few months, the company's country head said on Wednesday.

Boeing is looking to supply India with 22 attack helicopters and at least a dozen heavy-lift choppers.

Boeing also plans to bid for a separate $1 billion deal to supply at least a dozen heavy-lift helicopters to the Indian Air Force, the U.S. plane maker was interested in offering its Chinook CH-47.

India is looking to spend more than $30 billion over the next five years to modernise.

Boeing, which has already sealed a $2.1 billion deal to sell India 8 maritime patrol aircraft, is gearing up for trials to supply 126 fighter jets in one of the world's biggest arms deals, worth more than $10 billion.

Had heard about the attack helicopters part for which recently GOI had scraped the old tender as had not received bid according to the requirement of Army and a New tender is going to be raised for the same sooner. Due to this the aquiring of new attack helicopters will be delayed.

Apache's and Chinook's for the Indians. Interesting ...

Oh and just a suggestion. If you guys get the Apache, please chose a decent name for it.

I can see it now. India's AH-64 'SARPA' attack helicopter :P

The official reason was that the tender couldn't meet the requirements, but it was pretty clear that they just wanted to get the US companies back in that competition. I think the delay is not a big problem cause it gives HAL more time for LCH and us more choice which other helicopter fits better to it. Apache and Mi 28 should be frontrunners!
