Munshi Sb., your group's expectations from these two parties and specially from BNP to form a relation with India on the basis of equality and mutual respect is wrong at the core, their is no fundamental difference of any idealogy amongst them except BNP which forms in 1978 targets a Vote Bank which is Anti AL and Anti India in substance and towards including a just flavour of "Islam" in Bengali Nationalism in general beyond that BNP is no different from AL.

In my view BNP lost its importance as it cannot or could not go beyond its limits, it can/could-not challenge the genie of Bangali Nationaism by its horns...it can/could-not sided openly with the Idealogy of Muslim League...The Two Nation Theory which is the the basics for "any" indpendenct Muslim state in the subcontinent...Plain and Simple.

The Bengali Nationalism is the side product of Indian Secularism and its idelogy...as long as people of Bangladesh stick towards this idealogy...an Independent Muslim Bangladesh without any interfence of India is a long wish. This evident in the recent remarks of MMS to his fears about 25 percent elements in Bangladeshi politics these are not isolated views of his own but a strategic one from Indian Security establishment circles, you people needs to grow that 25 percent to at least 51 percent to becomes a nation of your choice.

having said all that still i beleive majority of Bangladeshi wants to lives in an Indian shadow...wants to lives in as 'Bengali' first than Bengladeshi and than Muslim, unless that mindset is changed towards 180 degree India will remains your tormentor for good or bad.

In a country where 99% of people are bengali, the term bengali nationalship is rather ill appropriate, by being what in your parlance is bengali nationalist, they are just being themselves!

If we look at two countries pakistan and bangladesh, both of them went on mutually exclusive path after 70s and I'd rather follow bangladesh's path even if it's an offshoot of indian secularism!

I agree that the BNP has failed in its agenda for promoting Bangladeshi nationalism but not for the reasons you state. The vast majority of Bangladeshis believe in Bangladeshi nationalism and that some element of Islam should exist in national life. The BNP due to its cowardice and greed has compromised on its basic principles and ideology and hence has become unreliable and untrustworthy. When more than 60% of the population is supportive of Bangladeshi nationalism it escapes me why the BNP has been so weak in thwarting the AL and India. It suggests to me a weakness of character rather than any failure in ideology.

Offshoot of Indian secularism? Bangladesh had secularism in its constitution during 1971, India later on.
