BNP to soften its anti-India stance for now

.
Damn! Now even the BNP has been infiltrated by the evil Hindoos and their Nazi-loving Buddhist sidekicks. . Now Bangladeshis must search for another party who'd help them regain China and Pakistan's blessings.

Those bloody Indians....

. .
a policical party only drop a agenda when it realize that the agenda is not supported by masses and can not convert into votes..

They have support nevertheless. If they were anti-India, they wouldn't have procured all those auto-rickshaws from India back in the 2000s in the first place.

Gr8, BD is lucky to hv autorickshaws.. Its time to get rid of cycle rickshows.. BNP leaders r real visioneries..

.
BNP never had an anti india stance to begin with. They always believed good relations with India, but prioritising our national interests first. Awami league is exactly the opposite.

.
“We can't ignore the trend of international politics. Continuous opposition to India will not bring any good for us, rather we will oppose on some specific issues,” mentioned a member of party's standing committee, asking not to be named.

That's what I call "protecting national interests". BNP is indeed evolving.

.
This is typical BNP policy. Let the AL give everything away while the BNP silently watches and accepts the fiat accompli. If and when the BNP come back to power they will do nothing to cancel the deals with Manmohan Singh. When the AL signed the Water Sharing Treaty and the CHT Accord the BNP were in opposition and they held long marches and hartals and vowed when they come to power they will repeal both as they are against the national interest. Sure enough they cam to power in 2001 and did nothing!

Munshi Sb., your group's expectations from these two parties and specially from BNP to form a relation with India on the basis of equality and mutual respect is wrong at the core, their is no fundamental difference of any idealogy amongst them except BNP which forms in 1978 targets a Vote Bank which is Anti AL and Anti India in substance and towards including a just flavour of "Islam" in Bengali Nationalism in general beyond that BNP is no different from AL.

In my view BNP lost its importance as it cannot or could not go beyond its limits, it can/could-not challenge the genie of Bangali Nationaism by its horns...it can/could-not sided openly with the Idealogy of Muslim League...The Two Nation Theory which is the the basics for "any" indpendenct Muslim state in the subcontinent...Plain and Simple.

The Bengali Nationalism is the side product of Indian Secularism and its idelogy...as long as people of Bangladesh stick towards this idealogy...an Independent Muslim Bangladesh without any interfence of India is a long wish. This evident in the recent remarks of MMS to his fears about 25 percent elements in Bangladeshi politics these are not isolated views of his own but a strategic one from Indian Security establishment circles, you people needs to grow that 25 percent to at least 51 percent to becomes a nation of your choice.

having said all that still i beleive majority of Bangladeshi wants to lives in an Indian shadow...wants to lives in as 'Bengali' first than Bengladeshi and than Muslim, unless that mindset is changed towards 180 degree India will remains your tormentor for good or bad.

.
^good analysis but just couple of things

In a country where 99% of people are bengali, the term bengali nationalship is rather ill appropriate, by being what in your parlance is bengali nationalist, they are just being themselves!

If we look at two countries pakistan and bangladesh, both of them went on mutually exclusive path after 70s and I'd rather follow bangladesh's path even if it's an offshoot of indian secularism!

. .
Tamim you're well versed about psyche of bengali people and politics that being played here, which makes me wonder if you had been to our lived in bengal, the east part of it that is!

A hot thread is running here on secularism for Pakistan:

http://www.defence.pk/forums/nation...w-success-lies-secularism-dr-irfan-zafar.html

So when Pk is thinking for secularism then what is point of Bangladesh to sick into Two Nation Theory?

Let's think if we can make something hybrid theory what will distinguish and save us from both India and religious extremism.

I agree that the BNP has failed in its agenda for promoting Bangladeshi nationalism but not for the reasons you state. The vast majority of Bangladeshis believe in Bangladeshi nationalism and that some element of Islam should exist in national life. The BNP due to its cowardice and greed has compromised on its basic principles and ideology and hence has become unreliable and untrustworthy. When more than 60% of the population is supportive of Bangladeshi nationalism it escapes me why the BNP has been so weak in thwarting the AL and India. It suggests to me a weakness of character rather than any failure in ideology.

Offshoot of Indian secularism? Bangladesh had secularism in its constitution during 1971, India later on.
