Hindu population percentage has come down from 28% to 8% now. They are no longer a deciding factor in the elections. So I would not be surprised if AL turns on them. At least they will be able to get some of the majority votes that way. In fact I expect the AL to be more anti Hindu in practice while remaining secular at face value. It is a sign of the changing times.

Sarthak, don't fall into their trap. They blame AL for everything wrong in their country. If you look at pattern of violence, then you see minorities being targeted from get go even before the elections were announced because they are loyal to AL. Why would any party alienate their constituency however small?

We have to change names of thousands of districts, sub districts, villages, towns to be anti-Hindu then. My native district is Laxmipur. Native Village is Shyamganj. There are Raipur, Rampur, Brahman Baria, Kaliganj, and off course Dhaka! There are very few district, sub district, villages which have Islamic names. দিনাজপুর: দিনাজপুর সদরের চারটি গ্রামের প্রায় দুই শতাধিক বাড়িঘরে হামলা চালিয়ে যুবলীগ ও ছাত্রলীগ নেতাকর্মীরা ভাঙচুর ও লুটপাট করেছে বলে অভিযোগ করেছে স্থানীয় ১৮ দল।

এসব হামলায় এলাকাবাসীর প্রায় দুই কোটি টাকার ক্ষয়ক্ষতি হয়েছে বলে দাবি করেছে জেলা বিএনপির নেতারা।

বুধবার দুপুরে দিনাজপুর জেলা বিএনপি কার্যালয়ে ১৮ দলের এক সংবাদ সম্মেলনে জেলা বিএনপির সভাপতি ও জেলা ১৮ দলের আহ্বায়ক লুৎফর রহমান মিন্টু এ অভিযোগ করেন।

লিখিত বক্তব্যে বলা হয়, ৬ ও ৭ জানুয়ারি সদর উপজেলার ৪টি গ্রামে যে ব্যাপক তাণ্ডব ও লুটপাট হয়েছে তার সঙ্গে কোনোভাবেই ১৮ দলের নেতাকর্মীরা জড়িত নয়। গভীর রাতে পুলিশ ও বিজিবির সহায়তায় আওয়ামী লীগ, যুবলীগ ও ছাত্রলীগের ক্যাডারদের আক্রমণে এই সহিংসতা ঘটানো হয়েছে।

স্থানীয় প্রশাসন ঘটনাটি ভিন্নখাতে প্রবাহিত করে ১৮ দলের নিরপরাধ ও নিরীহ নেতাকর্মীদের হয়রানি ও ফাঁসানোর অপচেষ্টা করেছেন বলেও এতে দাবি করা হয়।

লুৎফুর রহমান দাবি করেন, কর্ণাই, মহাদেবপুর শাহপাড়া, বকরীপাড়া এবং সুবরায় সংগঠিত নির্বাচনোত্তর সহিংসতার সময় পুলিশ ও বিজিবি ওই সন্ত্রাসীদের সহায়তা করেছে।

লিখিত বক্তব্যে অভিযোগ করা হয়, সন্ত্রাসীদের ভাঙচুরের হাত থেকে পবিত্র মসজিদও রেহাই পায়নি। হামলার ভয়ে এলাকার পুরুষেরা পালিয়ে গেলেও মহিলারা হয়েছেন শারীরিকভাবে নির্যাতিত ও লাঞ্ছিত। দুই শতাধিক বাড়ি ভাঙচুর ও হামলা করে প্রায় ২ কোটি টাকার স্বর্ণালংকার, নগদ অর্থ ও মালামাল লুটেছে সরকারি দলের ক্যাডাররা।

সংখ্যালঘু সম্প্রদায়ের ওপর পরিকল্পিত হামলার তীব্র নিন্দা জানিয়ে ১৮ দলের নেতা বলেন, ‘আমরা সাম্প্রদায়িক সম্প্রীতি রক্ষায় বদ্ধপরিকর। অবিলম্বে বিচার বিভাগীয় তদন্তের মাধ্যমে দোষী ব্যক্তিদের বিরুদ্ধে ব্যবস্থা গ্রহণ করে ১৮ দলের নিরীহ নেতাকর্মীদের হয়রানি বন্ধ করতে হবে।’

সংবাদ সম্মেলনে অন্যদের মধ্যে উপস্থিত ছিলেন- জেলা বিএনপির সাধারণ সম্পাদক মুকুল চৌধুরী, পৌর বিএনপির সভাপতি সোলায়মান আলী মোল্লা, সদর উপজেলা চেয়ারম্যান মোফাজ্জল হোসেন, জেলা জামায়াতের আমির মাহবুবুর রহমান ভুট্টো ও শহর জামায়াতের আমির তৈয়ব আলী প্রমুখ।

কুমিল্লা: কেন্দ্রীয় নেতৃত্বের নির্দেশে ছাত্রশিবিরের নেতা-কর্মীরা দেশের বিভিন্ন স্থানের ধর্মীয় উপাসানালয় পাহারা দিচ্ছে। এরই অংশ হিসেবে কুমিল্লার চৌদ্দগ্রাম উপজেলায় হিন্দুদের কেন্দ্রীয় মহাশশ্মান মন্দিরের সামনে বসে তা পাহারা দিতে দেখা গেছে শিবির নেতা-কর্মীদের।

দেশব্যাপী জামায়াতে ইসলামী ৪৮ ঘণ্টার হরতালের দ্বিতীয় দিনে সোমবার সকালে এ ঘটনা ঘটে। সংগঠনটির একটি অংশ মন্দিরের সামনে অবস্থান নেন। অন্যরা হরতাল পালন করছে।

মন্দিরের সামনে উপস্থিত শিবিরের উপজেলা অফিস সম্পাদক জসিম উদ্দিন বলেন, শিবির কখনও হিন্দুদের মন্দিরে হামলা করেনি, করবেও না।

তিনি বলেন, ‘আমাদের আন্দোলন জালিম সরকারের বিরুদ্ধে। হিন্দুদের সঙ্গে আমাদের কোনো বিরোধ নেই। কিছু কিছু জায়গায় মন্দিরে হামলার ঘটনা শুনে, আমরা আমাদের এলাকার মন্দির পাহারায় নেমেছি।’

উল্লেখ্য, গত কয়েকদিন নোয়াখালীসহ বেশ কয়েকটি স্থানে সংখ্যালঘুদের উপর হামলা এবং তাদের মন্দিরে ভাঙচুরের ঘটনা ঘটে। এটি জামায়াত-শিবির নেতা-কর্মীদের কাজ বলা হলেও দলটি তা অস্বীকার করে এ বিষয়ে বিচার বিভাগীয় তদন্তের দাবি করেছে।

Honestly speaking, if U don't see the pattern of AL's wrong doings to undo BD for last 7 yrs then U either don't know how to analyze pattern or U are biased towards them. Why do Indians suddenly care about Bangladeshi Hindus??

The same reason why Bangladeshis care about Indian Muslims. However, only PDF Indians are angry, for all other Indians who are not interacting daily with Bangladeshis on PDF, such incidents in Bangladesh are just another sad news, they will feel sad about the plight of some fellow human beings and move on. But unlike Bangladeshis, Indians will not going to attack Indian Muslims tonight to avenge for the atrocities on Bangladeshi Hindus.

Rohingyas are a concern for us because they are taking refuge in Bangladesh.....Besides Arakan(place where Rohingyas come from) are of strategic importance to us....how many times do you see us screaming about Iraq or Afghanistan....But as many Indians on PDF pointed out...Bangladeshi Hindus are of no concern to India!

Bangladeshi Hindus are constantly moving into India on a daily basis, apart from those large scale migrations in 1947 & 1971, slow migration is always there, it increases during BNP rule. So, shouldn't we be concerned also by your own logic?

1. By temperament Bengalees, on either side of the Radcliffe divide, have not only been non-communal but also anti-communal. The few communal incidents we saw in E Pakistan were all politically motivated carried out through the Mohajirs.

2. Post-'71 BAL has been using the Hindu community as a vote bank. This cannot be compared to the the Muslim vote bank of Congress. BAL constantly creates fear in the BD Hindus to draw them nearer. They are pampered beyond limit making object of jealousy. That in turn hampers communal amity, which aids BAL in cornering the Hindus.

3.During this tenure of BAL there have been several cases of attacks on Hindu dwellings - but no deaths. Police have not booked single person for these although in several incidents some culprits were apprehended red handed by the local people.All were BAL youth cadre. Obviously these were false flag staged to blame the opposition.

Now come down to the recent incidents centering around the one-sided voter-less polls.Around 500,000 security personnel have been deployed for the elections to 146 out of the 300 constituencies. 154 got elected unopposed through BAL/CEC magic!!! Of the several incidents not one culprit has been apprehended.Opposition parties have been demanding inquiries even by the UN to get to the truth.Instead v senior opposition leaders-some in the 70-80 age bracket,have been charged and arrested.

In the major incident at Abhaynagar, where a fishery Hindu community was targeted, the BAL Parliamentary Whip and sitting MP, Abdul Wahab, did not get BAL's nomination.BAL putup another candidate,Ranjit Roy of the Hindu community.Wahab rebelled and contested as an independent. During campaigns he used to threaten dire consequences to the Hindu community if they voted for Ranjit and not him. He lost,and remaining true to his words cracked down on the Hindus.

6. In The other major incident it was the State Minister for Home, Tuku who organized this in his constituency. Here the Hindus had shown liking for the rebel candidate,BAL's former Information Minister.

7. Hasina/BAL have cleverly duped India into a Jama't phobia. Jama't polls a max 3% votes. It is not at all an extremist/Ikhwan organization. It is a bourgeois party following Westminister type of parliamentary system. It has shrewdly used the Islamic signboard to obtain funds from gullible Arabs.After her return from 7 years' stay India,Hasina had started her political career after personally obtaining blessings/doa of Jama't leader Golam Azam.In the first post-Mujib elections,Hasina had aligned with Jama't to oppose BNP.

8.All in BD wonder why doesn't Hasina ban Jama't?Because then she will not have anything to whip BNP with.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, acting secretary general of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said, “We have been observing with great concern that, the government has been carrying attack on the minority establishments in different places of the country in a preplanned way to create an anarchic situation and simultaneously hatching conspiracy to shift the blame on Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatra Shibir. Till now, the involvement of ruling party’s wing organization including Chhatra League, Jubo League, Shechchashebok League and Awami League cadres have been found in all such type misdeeds.

Due to their malpractices of certain media, he said, “the real story is being concealed and the real criminals are encouraged to engage in further criminal acts with more enthusiasm. Subsequently, the unfortunate minority sections are becoming the worst victim of this malicious political game.”

The statement highlighted some media reports as follows:

-Attack on the Hindu temple in Krishnopur Upazila of Noakhali by the thugs of the ruling party. The local Puja committee (Hindu people’s prayer program arrangement committee) filed case with the local police station against 10 ruling party cadres.

-Attack the Hindu people’s houses in Tangail district by AL goons. Following the incident, a writ petition was filed by the victims in the High Court seeking immediate remedy. Consequently, the High Court directed the authorities concern to arrest the involved Awami League leaders and workers.

-Jubo League cadres were arrested while carrying attack and vandalism upon the Hindu communities in Sathia under Pabna district.

-A Jubo League leader was detained while attacking on the Shahid Minar (a monument to the Language Movement) in Bogra district.

-3 Chhatra League cadres had been arrested while attacking the house of Tribunal-1 justice Jahangir Hossen in his native village.

-Several Jubo League workers had been captured while throwing cocktail (crude bomb) towards an army vehicle in Feni district.

-Another Jubo League activist was caught while stealing an idol from a religious temple of the minorities in Mymensingh.

-One Jubo League activist was arrested in Satkhira while setting fire to the houses of minorities. A mobile court sentenced him to imprisonment for one year.

-In Magura District, 3 members of Jubo League were arrested by the police while throwing petrol bombs on a police van.

-The Principal of Shujabad Primary School of Shajahanpur Upazilla in Bogra district was arrested while setting fire to his own school.

-Awami League men carried inhuman violence and anarchy upon the minority community in Avoynagar of Jessore district. Mr. Ranjit Kumar Roy, the winning candidate of the voter less election of 5th January stated in a recent interview that, the cadres of his opponent candidate and local Awami League leader Sheikh Abdul Wahab had carried the attack on minorities.

But surprisingly, PM Hasina, Awami League’s General Secretary Syed Ashraful Islam and Education Minister declared just after the incident and without any investigation that, Jamaat-Shibir men had carried the misdeeds. Several dailies have already published their statement as well.

-During the tenure of this government, Jubo League men carried attack on the Buddhist people and their establishment in Ramu of Cox’s Bazar district.

-Jammat has expressed its deep concern over the incidents and urged “to form an independent inquiry commission comprising the representatives of different human rights bodies of the world under the direct supervision of the United Nations in order to reveal the real fact and to stop the ongoing violence, vandalism and anarchy against the minorities immediately.”

The statement also read, “We are seeking immediate UN intervention in this regard as well. We are ready to assist the inquiry commission in their investigation process by submitting the details of the envious incidents that had been taken place in Bangladesh in recent times.”

If any member of Jamaat or Shibir is found to be involved of any act of violence by a proper investigation, Jamaat promised to take punitive measures against him.

Rahman also demanded to set up close circuit camera (CCTV) to ensure the security of the houses and religious establishments of the minorities.

Calling upon the government to stop malicious game with the lives and properties of the minorities and urging the countrymen to form all out resistance against the heinous conspiracy, the statement expressed Jamaat’s hope and expect that, the government and the political parties will be more sincere and efficient in conducting their constructive and systematic political activities in the upcoming days.

RTNN,Newsdesk: The opposition-imposed blockade of roads, rail and waterways will continue till indefinite period, BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir reiterated today.

Fakhrul also asked the 18-party alliance activists to ensure the security of the minority community, said a press release of BNP issued this evening.

Fakhrul made the declaration on behalf of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.

He also blasted the government for holding the January 5 “farcical election" and arresting some central BNP leaders through “state-sponsored terrorism”.

The BNP-led 18-party opposition combine enforced the blockade since January 1, demanding cancellation of national polls results, release of its leaders and protesting killing of opposition men on the polls day.

The BNP secretary general blamed the ruling party for arson attacks on schools that had been used as voting centres.

To avoid national and international criticism regarding their 'farce polls', AL attacking on Hindu minorities. He added.

AL is the only party which gave top positions to Hindus in all major public sectors. Its not anti-Hindu party. BNP's official paper Amar Desh accused AL for giving Hindus positions in public sectors.

You mean for this top positions the qualification was to be a member of a specific community, not based on equality?
