Dhaka, Dec 20 (bdnews24.com)The Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday accused the opposition BNP of pursuing the policy of flattering India to go to power.
"The BNP leader's affection for India increases when she remains in power but always oppose India when in the opposition," Hasina said at a public rally in Jessore.
"She had gone to India much prior (to the next election) blinded by her desire for power to please them. That's why she (Khaleda Zia) forgot raising the border killing and Tipaimukh dam issues (during her recent visit to India)."
The BNP Chairperson during her recent visit had assured Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh that if BNP were voted to power, it would not let any terrorist group use the land of Bangladesh to run anti-India activities.
Hasina, also the President of the Awami League, said that it was unbecoming of Khaleda to speak about the freedom fighters.
"She is according reception to freedom fighters on one hand and killing people by setting them afire by calling hartal with Jamaat-Shibir to thwart the trial of war criminals, on the other," she said.
The BNP on Wednesday accorded a reception to the freedom fighters on the occasion of the country's 41st anniversary of victory in the Liberation War.
The top leaders of the Jamaat-e-Islami and two BNP leaders are currently facing the charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity at the International Crimes Tribunal.
