BNP election victory will endanger Hindus in Bangladesh, claims Quader

Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has reminded the Hindus of the communal violence they faced after the BNP’s electoral victory in 2001 and warned that it may recur if the party returned to power.
Quader made the statement while inaugurating a Janmashtami event in Dhaka on Saturday, a few months ahead of the parliamentary elections.

“Do you remember 2001?” he said. “Under the BNP’s rule communal forces came to power and brought horror and darkness. “

Those who identified them as Hindu were attacked and victimised, he said.

“Do you remember how many Hindu women were horrendously raped by these barbaric forces? How they persecuted innocent people and set fire to their homes?”

“Do you remember that violence? If those quarters return to power, they will usher in an even darker and bloodier time.”

The Hindu minorities had faced persecution across Bangladesh after the BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami came to power in 2001. Many leaders of the alliance had been named as the perpetrators of the violence.

Quader said he was worried that the Hindu community might be targeted ahead of this year’s elections.

“Stay alert. This quarter is afraid of losing the election and so they may attack you in an effort to foil it. They may believe that you are weak and attempt to take advantage of it. They may plot to ruin the good relations Bangladesh currently has with India.”

The road transport and bridges minister also called on the Hindus to support the Awami League in the upcoming election.

“You must remember that Sheikh Hasina’s government is the only one that is a friend to minority groups. Sheikh Hasina is your friend and your ally.”

“If you believe this then you know that Awami League must beat this faction in the coming general election. You must gird yourselves and help Sheikh Hasina and her leadership triumph over this quarter and help ensure your rights and your dignity.”

The BNP was stoking ‘communal divisions’ in the name of a national unity, Quader said.

Quader dismissed a question regarding the possibility that the election may not take place altogether.

“Only those who have failed to keep up are making such statements … it will not work, the people will oppose those who stand against the votes," the Awami League leader added.

Don't see anything wrong in his comment. Its a well known fact that not only hindus but ppl from most minor religions and ethnic groups in Bangladesh Prefer AL over Bnp due to their progressive nature. If i m not wrong i think BNP'S political workers celebrated their 2001 election victory by gang raping an underaged hidu girl.

BNP is the equivalent of BJP in Bangladesh.

Quite evident...based on past history, BNP never alligned minorities of BD....

The Hindus remain more in danger when BAL is in power. This started after 1971. Many returnee Hindus from India found their land taken over by the BAL goons. Hindus are the hostage at the hands of BAL and BCL to the point that they do not dare to come out of their clutch.

The problem is not BNP or Awami league. The problem lies with the muslim majoritý. Bangladeshis who were once secular are slowly becoming radicalised. Even the students studying in North South University are becoming terrorists and are getting influenced by the sermons of radical clerics like Jasimuddin Rahmani, the founder of Ansarullah Bangla Team.

Shut up savage.

You have been fighting your minorities ever since independence in 1949.

Just last year you killed and raped 10s of thousands of Rohingya and expelled 700,000 of them. Now only around 20% of them live in their lands in Myanmar.

Please say it is Arakan and not Burma because Arakan belongs to the Rohingyas and the Burmese are illegal occupier there since 1937 by a British Mandate.

Once upon a time, I thought Qadera as "Fatakesto". But, turns out he is a "chutiya"!

Tell your rohingya brothers to stop supporting Al qaeda/ISIS and stop terrorizing local Rakhine Buddhist people.
