DG ISPR just said that existence of these 'Punjabi Taliban' is over hyped, though there are pockets of these groups in Punjab

What do they consider 'over-hyped'?

What country would tolerate any group within its borders that killed 40 citizens in a suicide blast?

If they killed only 30 people, that would be ok?

This is like the Christian house burning. The government sits on their a** even though they know about these animals.

They are always reactive rather than proactive in these matters.

Though I an no expert on Pakistan constitution....
i guess...emergency would mean more power to president.....even judiciary is subject to president office under emergency.....and Pakistan for sure can not sustain another almost dictatorship......

Pakistan was a Military dictatorship for most of its history.

But pakistan has no other option, it is under pressure from US to kill taliban, at the same time does not want to make taliban their enemy, which will prove costly later.

Say in 2014 US leave afghanistan....if by then the whole taliban is against pakistan, then pakistian will be in horrible mess. There will be no military aid...and pakistan will have to fight it out.

Attack on GHQ will have seriously affected the morale of the fighting forces.

When army has difficuly in keeping the General's Office safe, what can be said about others.

It will be good for us. Remember If US leaves and stop Aid to us, then surely it will be hard for us to manage it but remember we will be 'free' to do what we want to. And that means we will take care of those people who are funding these rats. Be it Indian Consulates or Afghans. We kill kick each & everyone ar**.

US won't be there to Save India and Indian Consulates in Afghanistan will be ripped apart. If we can manage a war with India, then surely we will be able to take care of these rats right? And since their funding will be stopped, most of them will 'choke' within days.

If you are referring to Musharraf's rule, then I would argue that it was not so much a case of 'pushing the issue aside' than it was of trying various non-military options that would not involve deploying hundreds of thousands of troops in a military operation against the Taliban, at a time when there was widespread opposition to the US invasion of Afghanistan, and support for the insurgency, including by the Taliban in Pakistan.

The reason the Swat operation was successful is because the GoP and military had the support of the locals and other Pakistanis across Pakistan.

That support was non-existent during the times of 'peace deals', and there was no way to know that dialog and 'deals' would not work without giving them a shot.

So it was not an example of 'pushing problems aside', since the problem was continuously being addressed, based on political and military dynamics at the time - the solutions did not work out, which brings us to the current situation.

The military actually has far more latitude to act under the current democratic setup than it did under Musharraf.

Are you threatening to bomb the Indian consulates? You could be in a lot of trouble for making such a threat in a public forum.

Third major incident in eight days. This is more than Taliban as Taliban are mostly a bunch of numb nuts.

I am sure there are foreign elements helping and supporting Taliban.

In order to counter these foreign elements, the GoP need to bring out evidence in media. Enough of providing info at the diplomatic level.

At the same time tit for tat action needs to be taken against those involved and with very high intensity.
