A powerful blast ripped through a residential building in Nashik on Wednesday, claiming at least three lives and leaving about 12 others injured. The cause of the blast, which was initially suspected to be due to an LPG cylinder, is now being investigated by the ATS.
The blast took place around 3 pm in the three-storeyed Saptashrungi Cooperative Housing Society in Tarwala Nagar. The building also has five shops on the ground floor. According to eyewitnesses, the blast damaged the shops and the first floor apartments. The impact also blew away vehicles parked in the compound.
ATS investigators said the cause and sequence of the blast will be clear only after the entire debris is cleared.
At an initial press briefing DGP Ajit Parasnis said, “There seems to be an illegal godown on the premises. We suspect there could have been firecrackers stored in the building intensifying a cylinder blast.”
