If the UPS was enclosed in the cupboard without proper ventilation, that would be a good indicator.

At least nine people were injured in an explosion inside a mosque in Balochistan's Chaman area on Wednesday evening, DawnNewsTV reported.

The prayer leader (khateeb) of the mosque was among those injured in the blast that took place during maghrib prayers, police sources said. The mosque is located on Taj Road in Chaman, which lies near the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.

The explosion was caused by an improvised explosive device (IED) hidden inside the mosque, police sources told DawnNewsTV. The blast was so powerful that it was heard far and wide.

The injured were rushed to Civil Hospital Chaman for medical treatment where a state of emergency was imposed to treat the injured.

TV footage following the blast showed smoke inside the mosque and shattered glass lying on carpets.

Police, Levies and Frontier Corps officials cordoned off the site of the explosion. No group has claimed responsibility for the blast so far.

The incident comes on a day when Eid Miladun Nabi is being celebrated across the country. Strict security measures have been taken in connection with the processions being carried out today.

Chaman is considered a sensitive town in Balochistan as it shares a border with Afghanistan's volatile Kandahar province.

Earlier in August, one person was killed and 10 others, including two security personnel, were injured when an explosive device fitted in a motorcycle went off at Mall Road in Chaman.

CHAMAN: At least 10 people, including prayer leader of the mosque, have been wounded in a blast on Wednesday in Chaman area, Blaochistan, ARY News reported.

The blast took place at Eidgah Qadeemi Masjid while Maghreb prayer was underway, police said adding that nature of the powerful blast could not be ascertained yet.

The site of the incident is near the Pakistan-Afghan border.

The injured were taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment, where the local government has declared a state of emergency to treat the wounded.

Law enforcers have cordoned off the area, while Bomb Disposal Squad has reached the site of the explosion.

Sources said some explosive device went off in a cupboard kept in the mosque, however it’s being determined whether it was a cylinder blast or a battery went off. Glass and furniture were scattered all around.

Not my point.... batteries under load produce toxic fumes, they get heatup and due to quality issues, or accident, they may explode as well.
UPS is electrical device, it should be kept in special enclosures.
Keeping such equipment in living rooms or cabinets is personal safety risk, respective.
Ask any electrical engineer, they know all international electrical standards on battery and UPS enclosures and electrical installations.

I have seen car battery explosion , it doesn't hurt or kill people. Even UPS battery explosion doesn't kill or injured or broke glasses. ..or any type of shattering ..

How many batteries were in that UPS and of what capacity? The shrapnel and acid can be quite damaging.
