“We have not sent you (Prophet) forth but as a mercy to mankind,” says Quran (21:107). Note that this mercy is not restricted to Muslims only but is also true for the whole mankind. Unfortunately very few in our society know this verse but many on the other hand are well aware of the one talking about Jihad although its validity is only during the war times which is when it was revealed. Why is this so? Well it could be due to the indoctrination! It could be due to ignorant religious teachers who intend only to gain some quick respect and collect some free lunch. But whatever it is, one thing is very clear. Today more than the agnostics who see Quran as text from medieval time, it is Its own custodians who are treating It this way.

mera azam itna buland hai; ke paraye sholon ka dar nahi
mujhay khauf aatish-e-gul se hai; ke kahi chaman ko jala na de

Yes, it is now time that we go back to basics and see for ourselves what we were told to follow and where we have gone wrong. What is more important is not visiting mosques everyday and recite Quran in a language not known, but to understand it with an open mind and under the light of prophet’s (peace on him) life. Was it the life based on taking revenge from his (peace on him) blasphemers? And how could this be so when all the meccans were forgiven unconditionally at the time of the conquest of Macca!

Who haven’t heard of his (peace on him) visit to Taif (south of Macca) where children were instructed to throw stones and follow him (peace on him) until he (peace on him) was expelled from the town? On being asked by Gabriel if he (peace on him) wished a calamity to befall on that town, Prophet (peace on him) prayed:

“……………………
O most Merciful! Thou art the Lord of the weak and Thou art my Lord. To whom wilt Thou relinquish my fate! ………………………If Thou art not angry with me then I care not what happens to me. Thy favor is all that counts for me.
…………………”

Had Gabriel come to the prophet (peace on him) against the wishes of God? No. If God’s will was with prophet’s (peace on him) will, then why did not he (peace on him) ask for revenge? And if he (peace on him) did not ask for revenge, what gives his (peace on him) followers any right to do so?

Yes I know. Some of you will say that this was during the early periods of Islam when the religion was itself week and not much could have been done. Lets fast forward and go to Madina where Muslims were in much stronger position and very much dominant. Again I have got nothing new but instead a more common story of the old women who used to throw garbage at our beloved prophet (peace on him) on daily basis. One day when she didn’t do it, he (peace on him) went to her place to inquire and found her ill. Finding her helpless, he (peace on him) did all her house work and took care of her. His (peace on him) caring and merciful character left such a deep impression that she accepted his message and became his (peace on him) follower. So why wasn’t she prosecuted for being a blasphemer?

There are plenty of similar stories but not all of them can be citied and neither it is of much use if one is not to learn any message from them. Despite memorizing these stories through out our school life, we are still to cover much space between passing the exams and translating the actual message into actions.

Blasphemy law is a similar dilemma which we face today. It is a dilemma in which people are trying to pass the test of love without getting to know the actual message. Isn’t it absurd to love someone without knowing his character and teachings? Indeed it is but at the same time it is much harder to first understand the message and then act upon it. Passing a self formulated test is much easier while having a reasonable feel good effect.

This is not to say that blasphemy is to be encouraged. Rather freedom of speech at individual level should also not go beyond debating and must stop before someone’s feelings are hurt. But if someone transgresses his limits and uses derogatory remarks for other’s religion, in no case he is entitled to capital punishment. Such a case can not be found in prophet’s (peace on him) life – a life which was the exact reflection of Quranic teachings.

Similarly Quran, while telling us how to deal with such situation, says, “Had your Lord pleased, all the people of the earth would have believed in Him. Would you then force men to be believers?” (10:99). At another place it is mentioned, “Say: ‘This is the truth from your Lord. Let him who will, believe in it, and him who will, deny it,’” (18:29, Quran). Quran allows full freedom to everyone with respect to choosing one’s religion. Instead it goes a step further and talks of believers as those who do not concern themselves with people who engage in vain talk and at the same time send peace on them as well. “And when they (believers) hear vain talk, they (believers) turn away therefrom and say: ‘To us our deeds, and to you yours; peace be to you: we seek not the ignorant,’" (28:55, Quran). It cannot be made more clearer as to why we should not concern ourselves with what others think or say. And why should we when we all will descend into our very own graves? “No soul shall bear another’s burden. To Allah you shall all return and He will declare to you what you have done. He knows your inmost thoughts,” (39:7, Quran).

For those who still find it hard to deal justly with people of other religions, it is said for them, “Do not allow your hatred for other men to turn you away from justice. Deal justly; justice is nearer to true piety. Have fear of Allah; He is cognizant of what you do,” (5:8, Quran). Note that ‘other men’ include all people and not just Muslims.

Once prophet (peace on him) was asked to invoke a curse upon non-Muslims on which he replied, “I was not sent on the earth to curse; I was sent only as a mercy.” It is the legacy of this mercy which we see today in the form of around 1.5 billion Muslims. Had it been for our actions, this religion would have long vanished.

Today we see much anxiety when it comes to debating on Islamic or Secular Pakistan. Yet we do not know what Islam really is. Islam is much more than offering five daily prayers and fasting during the month of Ramzan. It is about showing mercy to humanity, dealing with people justly, winning hearts through your character, and benefiting everyone around you. It is not the former part but the later one which will help you pass your test of love. Once we adopt this in our daily dealings, we will not be dependent on the word ‘Islamic’ to make Pakistan an Islamic state.

And Life Moves On but With Frequent Stops: Blasphemy Law: Medieval or Ignorance of minds? (Religious Perspective)

There must rule to stop such irrespective addressing to our prophet so we have Law. Pakistan is Islamic country, based on Islamic ideology and who want to live in Pakistan he has to respect the rules and regulations based on religion. There is no more talk.

But shouldn't it be only logical and expected that a non-Muslim might disrespect Islam and/or our Prophet (SAW)? I am not condoning, supporting or allowing this, but it's reality. Islam is the religion of peace, understanding and everything that is the opposite of barbaric and jaahiliyya, killing a non-Muslim just because she said something against the Prophet (SAW) is far from peaceful.

"Nothing is more despicable than respect based on fear."

Do we want them to respect Rasool-Ullah? Then must show them his qualities through actions.

Pakistanis will not tolerate any kind of attack against our Prophet (SAW) that many non-muslims are doing today. The cartoons and films against our Prophet (SAW) hurts the sentiments of Muslims everywhere and Pakistani Muslims will not tolerate that especially in Islamic Republic of Pakistan.

Why are people speaking out against this law now when Pakistanis have millions of other problems. How will talking about this law help the common Pakistani person. The common Pakistani person want jobs, food to put on the table for his/her family, a warm house in this dead of winter, gas to cook food in his/her house, a house, a car, and gas to put in his/her car, education for his/her children, electricity in his/her house, safety for his/her children. When the common Pakistani person is lacking these basic necessities then why talk about the 30 year old law? Where were these Pakistani secularists 10 years ago when Pakistan had less problems to worry about?

Blasphemy law should not ve any place in modern society. just for example todays news......

Blasphemy case registered against mentally challenged Muslim

By Afnan Khan

LAHORE: The Kot Addu police have registered a case under the blasphemy law against a mentally challenged Muslim at the request of a local mosque’s cleric allegedly in an attempt to settle a rivalry with the family of the accused.

The case has been registered against Muhammad Amjad, son of Muhammad Nazir, by the cleric of their local mosque named Muhammad Sajid in Chak 621 PDA Chowk Sarwar Shaheedwala area of Kot Addu.

The case number 4/11 was registered by the Chowk Sarwar police on Wednesday while the complainant has also accused Amjad’s father Muhammad Nazir and a relative Muhammad Iqbal of conspiring to desecrate the holy Quran with the main accused.

The police raided the house of the accused and rounded up the son and his father on the same day on Sajid’s request, who stated in his registered FIR against Amjad that he set the holy Quran on fire in the courtyard of the mosque, where he (Sajid) is serving as the chief cleric, and then ran away.

Sajid claimed that the incident took place on Wednesday morning, but he did not see Amjad perpetrating the act personally, and only found the desecrated Quran in the mosque premises, while his students told him that the deed was committed by Amjad. Moreover, he has also stated in the FIR that Amjad committed the blasphemy on the orders of his father Nazir and a relative Muhammad Iqbal, and sought action against both of them as well.

However, locals and human rights activists dealing with the case told Daily Times that Amjad had been mentally challenged since his birth and was not aware of the worldly affairs, and it was impossible for him to conspire or understand the meaning of blasphemy at all.

They said that there was a traditional rift between the families of Sajid and Amjad and the complainant used the blasphemy law as a tool to settle his score with his rivals. They also alleged that the authorities picked up both the father and son despite knowing that Amjad was mentally challenged and that the police was favouring the complainant in this case.

However, the third accused of the case, Muhammad Iqbal, managed to escape police arrest and his whereabouts are still unknown to the local police and they were raiding various places to catch him.

One human rights activist, Napolean Qayoom, told Daily Times that the whole area knows that Amjad was mentally challenged and the police’s registration of the case against him under the blasphemy law despite knowing the fact sounded like another example of the misuse of the controversial blasphemy law in the country.

He said he was personally monitoring the case and would try his level best to provide legal aid to the victims while seeking action against the culprits who committed such a mischief during an already fragile situation in the country.

He said the case number 4/11 was registered on the complaint of Muhammad Sajid, who is a local cleric, under Section 295-B of the blasphemy law, while Section 109 of the Pakistan Penal Code had been imposed in the same case against Muhammad Nazir and Muhammad Iqbal for conspiring with the main accused.

He said that most of the cases registered under the blasphemy law were registered by the opponents of the accused, merely to settle scores, adding that most of the victims of these laws were Muslims. Napolean said it was ironic that the accused were mistreated and tortured by the police and other people without any proof of the accusations made against them, adding that some of them were even killed in custody or even before they were presented in any court.

Reader of Chowk Sarwar Police Station, Tanveer, told Daily Times that the police had registered the case against the accused on Wednesday and that they had sent them to a local court on Thursday for remand. However, he abstained from revealing any further details or commenting on the issue while stating that the accused were still in the courts until Thursday night and that he would be able to comment on the issue after they returned. Moreover, the station house officer abstained from commenting on the issue when contacted.

How about exile those individuals who make such hate speech rather then kill them and create a violent image of Islam? Show me any reference from quran, hadtis, sunnah which gives permission to kill those who create hatred. This men made law makes only Islam look bad.

My friend. Pakistan is so called "islamic" state. Its ideology is corrupt and nothing like "Islam". Other wise Pakistan would be govern today according to Khilafah not the British colonial system that is supported in every corner of Pakistan i.e Media, Politicians etc...
And Pakistan does not represent "ISLAM".
Islam is only in the hearts and minds of few individuals.

Today because of this Law there is a sense of respect to our prophet, we are not going to frightening somebody but we also don't allow people freedomlly express any negative views to our prophet. This is not killing but according to the rules passed in constitution it called verdict ion, correct your sense of words. No any religion Christianity, Yahud, Buddhism) allow its followers to insult other religion's law and personality. When we are not touching them then who they are to comment upon us?
Where i understand Christians are living in Pakistan with all freedom of religion practice and nobody touching them, but there are people who go across the boundaries of their faith and then problem is created and for this purposes WE HAVE RULE TO PUT THEM INTO THE BOUNDRIES.

Listen what are you talking about? is there any sense of your statement? Qur’an e Pak is everything for us and i advise you to read 30th chapter- SURAH LAHAB: When God itself answering to Abu Lahab's irrespective action against prophet Muhammad (PBUH)

tell me when God itself Condemned the action against our Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) then why we as a Muslim could not make a law to stop such actions?

And Pakistan does not represent "ISLAM".
Islam is only in the hearts and minds of few individuals.

We are not going to kill but bring verdict against them according to the constitutional Law:

The blasphemy laws
Several sections of Pakistan's Criminal Code comprise its blasphemy laws.[4] § 295 forbids damaging or defiling a place of worship or a sacred object. § 295-A forbids outraging religious feelings. § 295-B forbids defiling the Quran. § 295-C forbids defaming the prophet Muhammad. Except for § 295-C, the provisions of § 295 require that an offence be a consequence of the accused's intent. Defiling the Quran merits imprisonment for life. Defaming Muhammad merits death with or without a fine. (See below Sharia.) If a charge is laid under § 295-C, the trial must take place in a Court of Session with a Muslim judge presiding.[5]

§ 298 states:

Whoever, with the deliberate intention of wounding the religious feelings of any person, utters any word or makes any sound in the hearing of that person or makes any gesture in the sight of that person or places any object in the sight of that person, shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to one year, or with fine, or with both.

§ 298-A prohibits the use of any derogatory remark or representation in respect of Muslim holy personages. § 298-B and § 298-C prohibit the Ahmadiyya from behaving as Muslims behave, calling themselves Muslims, proselytizing, or "in any manner whatsoever" outraging the religious feelings of Muslims. Violation of any part of § 298 makes the violator liable to imprisonment for up to three years and liable also to a fine.

No judicial execution of a person charged with blasphemy has occurred in Pakistan.[6][7] Article 45 of the Constitution says, "The President shall have power to grant pardon, reprieve and respite, and to remit, suspend or commute any sentence passed by any court, tribunal or other authority."

The only law that may be useful in coutering misuse of the Blasphemy law is PPC 153 A (a), whoever “by words, either spoken or written, or by signs, or by visible representations or otherwise, promotes or incites, or attempts to promote or incite, on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, caste or community or any other ground whatsoever, disharmony or feelings of enmity, hatred or ill-will between different religious, racial, language or regional groups or castes or communities” shall be fined and punished with imprisonment for a term that may extend to five years.

The Federal Shariat Court (FSC) is a religious body which rules on whether any particular law is repugnant to the injunctions of Islam. If a law is repugnant to Islam, "the President in the case of a law with respect to a matter in the Federal Legislative List or the Concurrent Legislative List, or the Governor in the case of a law with respect to a matter not enumerated in either of those Lists, shall take steps to amend the law so as to bring such law or provision into conformity with the Injunctions of Islam" (Constitution, Article 203D). In October 1990, the FSC ruled that § 295-C was repugnant to Islam by permitting life imprisonment as an alternative to a death sentence. The Court said "the penalty for contempt of the Holy Prophet . . . is death."[8][9] The FSC ruled that, if the President did not take action to amend the law before 30 April 1991, then § 295-C would stand amended by its ruling.

Promptly after the FSC's ruling in 1990, Bishop Dani L. Tasleem filed an appeal in the Supreme Court of Pakistan, which has the power to overrule the FSC. In April 2009, the Shariat Appellate Bench of the Supreme Court considered the appeal. Deputy Attorney-General Agha Tariq Mehmood, who represented the federal government, said that the Shariat Appellate Bench dismissed the appeal because the appellant did not pursue it. The appellant did not present any argument on the appeal because the appellant, according to reports, was no longer alive. Consequently, it appears to be the law in Pakistan that persons convicted under § 295-C must be sentenced to death with or without a fine.

so this never come to its power without the IJMAA of the council of Mufties and Ulimaas, and more over The Federal Shariat Court (FSC).

What you said SO CALLED ISLAMIC STATE, i am very very sorry to listen because to worth of this islamic states know only those more than millions who gave their lives for this country and passed through the bloodshed of more than half million peolples while migerating.
And showing your self a moderen people said that we are belongs to SO CALLED ISLAMIC STATE? Would you like to think again?

and what you said "And Pakistan does not represent "ISLAM".
Islam is only in the hearts and minds of few individuals
."
You know why we suffered from all this international pressure or this WOT because the real Islamic state in the world is Pakistan and we are suffered by whole this instability you know why? because you are Islamic atomic state. Today they are forcing you to finish this Blasphemy Law and after that they will force you to leave the title Islamic democratic republic of Pakistan to only Pakistan. And after tomorrow you will see same anti prophet drawings and material just like in Denmark with full freedom and without any hesitation. That’s Pakistan you are imagining? May be you are imagining but not me or 16o million of Muslims living in Pakistan. We can't.

So we have law and there must be no more discussion over this.

You are only disrespecting your prophet when you make such assertions, do you even realise that? Sorry to say but we say such things about local mafia dons in Mumbai.

Sense of respect, LOL!

get some life.

none of these verses authorize anyone to put non believers to death. and secondly which punishment will be given to who in the hereafter is not our domain but God's. and when Quran talks of such punishments it mostly keeps them in God's domain.

also u need to read this verses in full to get the exact of context of what they mean.

in contrast, all the verses which i have quoted and examples given from the lyf of prophet (peace on him) are very clear on how to deal with blasphemy. and this is by ignoring them while sending peace on them.

and if we can change our man made constitution with 18th amendment, then we can change this law as well.

Thats why ISLAM has its own laws that needs to be fallowed accordingly! This blasphemy law created in "democratic" Pakistan does Not represent Islam by any means but only the mentality of (misguided Muslims). This law is not any different then the laws created by TTP and both dont represent Islam.
Islam is a message of Peace "Tolerance" which unfortunately many Pakistanis fail to comprehend.
ALLAH would love the lovers of Prophet Mohammed if they could spread the messages of Sunnah and Hadis by peaceful means.. Like first educate fellow Muslims about Prophet Mohammed and then the disbelievers of Allah and his final messenger by "PEACEFULLY" engaging in useful conversation. And if the disbelievers still spread hateful speech about Islam then EXILE that person out of your LAND! By doing this Muslims have gain "SAWAB" from allah and conveyed the Message of Islam to the WORLD that Muslims are a Peace loving society. Taking that person's life will only satisfy fellow misguided Muslim's egos and only allah will give them gunah because it is our fard to preserve the image of Islam as a "PEACE" loving society not violent.
Their are soooo many of Prophet Mohammed's examples like when he use to spare disbelievers lives who even fought him, but eventually they were so moved by him that they eventually converted to Islam. And Prophet Mohammed PBUH did not even force them.

This is your misinterpretation thats all i can say.

These kind of constitutional Laws are indirect result of inheritance of Colonial Constitutions which many Pakistanis proudly boost about.

refernces from where-islam-islamic-republic-pakistan-

Remember, Britain's main goal was to weaken the Muslim ummah by splitting them into many states. They made sure no Muslim nation that was formed during or after the collapse of British empire had Islamic ruling system (ummah Kalifah) which could merge together and once again become prospering ummah. During 1600-1700 Period the west prospered while Muslims of the subcontinent (and world wide) became lazy, greedy, more interested in spending wealth in useless things prime example "taj mahal". Muslims slowly turned away from the true values of Islam and its teachings and eventually all that resulted in the collapse of Ummah. Muslims occupied majority of Indian subcontinent but I believe Hindus and Sikh were more in numbers but in smaller region. In order to make sure the Muslims of subcontinent would never rise again (as a prospering nation) they divided the land and indirectly created rift among ourselves prime example ethnicity. Thats why muslims today in Pakistan are so ignorant. First they identify themselves as proud "pathan punjabi balochi etc" then Pakistani and then indirect importance of Islam (not talking about the spiritual aspect as only Allah can judge that).
This is where Pakistan comes from. Scattered nations, ethnicity, castes, etc has no importance in Islam. The Prophet said, “Believers are like one man”, because Islam wants the Muslims to be united, not divided. Strength lies in solidarity.
Coming back to Jinnah. It should be clear now the reason why Britian gave independence to Pakistan was because "Jinnah agreed on colonial ruling system" and nothing more. Only Mohammed Alama Iqbal supported the concept of true Islam for Pakistan. Jinnah did support this idea but I believe only to win hearts and minds of the muslims. If Mohammed Alama Iqbal was on Jinnah's place I believe he could have agreed upon British demands (just to get independence) but right after independence he would CHANGE THE COURSE OF PAKISTAN! He then would deliver clear message with actions that Pakistan's Ideology is based on true meaning of Islam and implemented the system which Jinnah failed to deliver.
Think of Pakistan as a "Colonial British" product which needs to be changed.
hey their is so much stuff i wanna talk about, but i am afraid i may hurt peoples sentiments.

Like i said. Pakistan's makeover cant be done over night neither by FORCE this is what jahil mullahs and their supporters fail to understand. And plus their ideologies misrepresent Islam. They have mixed culture their own fed up interpretation with the religion.
Its gonna be a slow and fast process. Education is very essential and this time it should be made sure that the people "UNDERSTAND" and can make their own decision.

Where is Islam in Islamic Republic of Pakistan?

Given the present state of affairs, this is an important question indeed.

The role of Islam in the private life of its citizens is not the topic here, but rather the role that it plays in governance and social structures. There are those who would model this role after the western ideas of separation of church and state, and there are those who would want a total theocracy as pure as their ideal dating back to the early days of Islam. Caught in between these two camps is a nation of millions, sitting on crucial cross-roads of geography, history and future potential. In this nation where the majority of the population is illiterate, rural and deprived of basic needs of adequate shelter, nutrition, education and health services, this tussle is really between fairly small but influential camps.

One camp is the so-called elite, the educated gentry, who has enjoyed the best of everything that the country has to offer since it was created over half a century ago. This group pays lip service to cultural and religious sensitivities of the population at large and tries to carry on as if their privileged hold will last forever.

The opposing camp is the religious right, the staunch and rigid followers of a strict code that they wish to impose on all around them, whether they agree with such an interpretation or not. Emboldened by the events in the region since the 1980s, they see within their reach a prized goal: total control over a nuclear armed state, that can be subsequently translated into a launching pad to recreate an age old romanticised notion of a huge empire extending from South Asia to Northern Africa.

Caught in between these two camps is the battleground: the all-important armed forces and their various clandestine agencies, the corrupt and inefficient civil governments at various levels, and the political parties that are little more than loosely affiliated groups of thugs of various persuasions. These crucial entities have within them elements of both camps, creating an absolutely bewildering array of incoherent policies, abrupt reversals and tussles, conspiracies and machinations, aided and abetted by an equally bewildering array of foreign agencies and governments.

All of these parties know the power of Islam the religion as an extremely effective tool to mold and control the population at large. The armed forces use it as a motivational tool to inculcate the fatalistic desire for martyrdom in its rank and file troops while their superior officers play kingmakers and dabble in financially lucrative enterprises. The corrupt civil machinery uses it as the proverbial opium of the masses who can be relied upon to take all the indignities heaped upon them by those whose duty it is to serve them, with nary a complaint, while it continues to enrich and perpetuate itself. The political parties use it as a cloak to hide their naked lust for power and control, to be dropped as soon as they are able to grab the coveted seats of government, only to be conveniently reused when unceremoniously dismissed by the military overlords in conjunction with foreign influences and the opposing teams of thugs.

So there you have it, the convoluted and unpalatable answer: Islam in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan is no more than a useful tool, cynically and endlessly used by all those who have a stake in the game.

Except of course, the millions who just wish to be able to lead an honest and simple life with dignity, for whom it is truly a saviour, for it gives them the forbearance to put up with the truly adverse circumstances prevailing today, and even gives them hope that the future may possibly be better than what it appears to be, by some miracle that probably will never materialise.

Would you like to think again?and what you said "And Pakistan does not represent "ISLAM".

Yes, thats why I believe their sacrifice for a separate land for Muslims should not go to waist. And thats why above post justifies.
By Establishing (Ummah Kalifah) type system Pakistan will be in a much better place to be called "Islamic" state.
