The rights of every man are diminished when the rights of one man are threatened.” - John F. Kennedy

Let’s put some light on Kashmir the beautiful mountainous valley that is painted with the blood of thousands of innocent human beings including men, women and children. Kashmiris are facing the countless atrocities at the hands of the so called largest secular democracy - INDIA. The tyranny of Kashmiris stretches back to the time of independence in 1947. For decades, the entire valley has been plagued by violence amid territorial tensions between Pakistan and India that have resulted in regular exchanges of artillery fire, local independence movements and anti-India separatists. According to Kashmir Media Service there have been 94,952 total killings in the valley, 143,481 civilians were arrested and 11,058 women were raped and molested since Jan 1989 until Mar 2018. Kashmiris are deprived of the basic rights of freedom of speech, freedom of choice, security of life and honor and the situation is worsening with every passing day.

PM Narendra Modi’s regime further added fuel to the already worsening situation, their policy to intensify the crackdown on militants led to more violence than ever before. Civilian deaths, such as the shooting of prominent Kashmiri journalist Shujaat Bukhari, continue to mount due to which clashes between Indian troops and Kashmiris have gained paramount increase. According to facts by Kashmir voice, it is reported that there were 48 killings in the month of Nov, 169 civilians were arrested and 196 civilians were critically injured.

To further worsen the situation Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) exited the three-year old alliance with the People's Democratic Party (PDP) - a regional faction in Jammu and Kashmir amid concerns of growing terrorism, this led to the state's chief minister to resign, eventually bringing the state to fall under direct rule by India's central government. It is pertinent to mention here that PDP was playing a major mediating role between Kashmiris and BJP. This is an alarming move as it will worsen the situation, Indian Occupied Kashmir is now administered by an official who answers to New Delhi, which means that the prospect of dialogue between the Indian government and Kashmir Freedom fighters will diminish and there will be no room left for India and Pakistan to engage in talks to normalize their relationship.

BJP is resorting towards more hardline policies towards helpless Kashmiris by applying Draconian Laws such as Armed Forces Special Powers Acts (AFSPA), Public Safety Act (PSA), Terrorist Activities and Disruptive Act (TADA), Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA) to name the few. These muscular tactics not only aggrieved Kashmiris but also brought Kashmir issue in focus for international watchdogs due to which UN issued its first ever UN report on alleged human rights violations in Kashmir in Jun 2018 in which UN accused India of widespread human rights violations in Kashmir including mass killings, forced disappearances, torture, rape and sexual abuse to political repression and suppression of freedom of speech. The report also accused India of using excessive force on civilians.

It is high time that the world feels the plight of Kashmiris and pressurize BJP to end the suppression on the innocent freedom fighters who have spent generations in violence and suppression.

Pakistan needs to provide the Kashmiri pandits something like Kartarpur.

Kashmiri diaspora in India face racial and religious discrimination.

Fuel to fire ? The Govt of the land is enforcing the law of the land . For decades the ' softly Softly' approach has brought us to the point where were are.

Those who challenge the state by picking up weapons & actively impede the organs of the state do so fully aware of its consequences . They deserve what they get.

This is applicable worldwide.

An unfortunate side effect of coalition politics, thats all.

Indian Occupied Kashmir is now administered by an official who answers to New Delhi, which means that the prospect of dialogue between the Indian government and Kashmir Freedom fighters will diminish and there will be no room left for India and Pakistan to engage in talks to normalize their relationship.

Governors rule, part of the Constitution.

Why should the prospect of dialogue diminish ? Now, middle men get weeded out & its better.

As regards normalisation of Indo Pak relationship , its always on the cards so long as the reasons for shut down are addressed.

Madame (Is it? Assuming as such)

The narrative, unfortunately, has been shifted from a political struggle to an Islamic Militancy intended to 'terrorize' the common people. There are no guesses as to what that means.

By no means can the responsibility of the same (partial as it may be) be disavowed by even the Pakistani authorities. And fortunately (as an Indian) or unfortunately (looking at the situation in a humane way), the price will be borne by the masses by their very own actions, who remain oblivious to the nature and consequences of the actions that they undertake, being mere pawns in a game of two powers (India & Pakistan) who can not get their act together to address a tragedy that still bleeds the subcontinent till date.

Having said that, no one is innocent of the consequences of their action if the actions are taken as an adult with ample precedents of the ghastly nature of the said consequences.

Further, like any other legitimate State authority anywhere in the world, the right to use force (in this case proportional and not overwhelming) rests with the State itself. The fact that an armed movement is being undertaken within the territories of the Union, is illegal by all Laws of the Land, a Law that also gives the special rights to the State in question i.e. J&K by the virtue of it's legitimacy and validity to the Union.

One need take a look at the Catalan movement. Progress and socio-economic advancement can, perhaps, lead to better settlement of outstanding issues, attributes which remain hobbled by the continuation of the cycle of violence unabated.

Cheers
