From where i am seeing Sajjad Lone has returned back to mainstream. Yassin Malik protested against seperate housing for Kashmiri Pandits , so there has been a big change in the hurriyat leaders and the big thing to notice that BJP leader has used the term Geelani Sahab and asked him to return back to mainstream.

“If Geelani sahib wants the passport then he has to fall in the line and follow law of the land.”

Authorities in Kashmir have denied a passport to a cabinet minister in the Mufti Mohammad Sayeed- led government.

Sources told Deccan Herald that separatist-turned-mainstream leader and now Minister for Animal Husbandry Sajad Gani Lone had applied for the passport three years earlier. “However, his application remains in limbo and he has been unable to move out of the country for the last three years,” they said. “Lone’s name figures in the prior approval category (PAC) of Foreign Ministry. The list has 5,000 people from Kashmir Valley,” they added.

The denial of a passport for Lone makes news just when the non-issuance of a passport to hardline Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Geelani has been making headlines.

Pertinently, Lone is married to Asma Khan, daughter of the Pakistan-based pro-independence JKLF leader Aman-ullah Khan. Lone’s party, Peoples Conference (PC), contested last year’s Assembly elections and won from two segments. Lone, who himself won from the Handwara segment in north Kashmir, was given a Cabinet berth from the BJP quota in the coalition government led by Mufti.

Before elections he met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi and Lone was all praises for him. “I cannot tell you how humble he is. He was talking as if I was the Prime Minister and not him. It was like two brothers talking to each other,” he told reporters after the meeting.

Sajjad Lone, who has a degree in economics from Cardiff University in London, burst on to Kashmir’s political scene after his father Abdul Gani Lone was assassinated by unidentified militants on May 21, 2002 during a rally in downtown Srinagar. His elder brother Bilal Lone is executive member of moderate Hurriyat Conference led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq.

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday said that the Ministry of Home Affairs has no objection in giving a passport to Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani, provided all formalities are completed.

"We can issue the passport once all formalities are completed. There is no problem from the side of MHA. We have no objection if all the formalities are completed," said Rajnath Singh.

On Thursday, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said that an incomplete passport application was received from Geelani, and added that the application cannot be processed in its present form.

Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) Jitendra Singh had also said that if Geelani is granted permission to go abroad, he will have to follow the procedure like every other individual.

Geelani has applied for an Indian passport to go to Saudi Arabia and visit his ailing daughter.

Earlier this week, Geelani's wife and son completed biometrics at the Regional Passport Office (RPO) in Srinagar after they had applied online for their passports. (ANI)

Separatist Kashmiri leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani on Friday said that he is not an Indian by birth.

Appearing before passport authorities, Geelani said it is a compulsion that he has to travel with an Indian passport.

The separatist leader, however, wrote 'Indian' in the nationality column in his passport application.

Talking to reporters outside the passport office, Geelani said, "I am not by birth Indian. It is a compulsion".

Notably, the separatist leader had applied for a passport along with his wife and son so that they can visit his ailing daughter in Saudi Arabia.

"Geelani submitted his biometric data -- finger prints and iris scan -- at the designated counter," an official of the Regional Passport Office here said.

The 88-year-old hardline Hurriyat leader reached the Passport Seva Kendra here at the scheduled time of his appointment at 10.15 am.

A Hurriyat spokesman justified Geelani writing Indian in the nationality column saying "travelling on the Indian passport is a compulsion of every Kashmiri".

"Geelani too is compelled to complete the formalities in this regard," he added.

The issue of granting Geelani passport had sparked a political debate with ruling BJP opposing it saying that he should declare his nationality as Indian and apologise for his anti-national activities. However, its ally PDP had favoured it while former chief minister Omar Abdullah had said it was not an issue as Geelani had been given passport in the past too.

The Centre had said it will examine Geelani's application on merit once he completes all formalities.

I understand the situation adequately. BJP wanted to force the old fu*k to state he is an India, that has transpired. What he says/whines in media is of no consequence, what he as been forced to write in his official submission is what matters.

Now, his situation is no longer of any consequence. Whether this joker is given a passport or not. Whether he lives or not, entirely irrelevant.

Basically, all the separatists and their sponsors were shown how powerless they are in front of Indian state. Previous governments could have exerted such conditions, they chose not to. This one did.

Muzaffarnagar: A court here on Wednesday reserved its order on a plea by firebrand VHP leader Sadhvi Prachi, an accused in a case relating to riots here two years ago, seeking passport and permission to go abroad.


Sadhvi Prachi?approached the court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Sita Ram?and prayed that she be allowed to secure passport for her travel abroad for preaching.

Government prosecutor Mewalal opposed her plea saying that she is an accused in a case pending in court.

Sadhvi Prachi appeared in the court?and filed the application through her lawyer Chanderveer.

She had contested the 2012 Uttar Pradesh assembly elections?on a BJP ticket and was among?40 persons?accused of inciting riots through their speeches in the year 2013.

More than 60 persons?were killed in the riots that had broken out in Muzaffarnagar?and adjoining districts in September, 2013

Srinagar: A short duration validity passport has been issued to Hurriyat Conference chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani by the government to visit his ailing daughter in Saudi Arabia.

The passport, which is valid for nine months, has been issued two months after his application was rejected on the grounds of incomplete information.

"Geelani has been issued a short-duration passport with nine months validity," official sources told PTI.

An official in the Regional Passport Office(RPO) in Srinagar also said that the Hurriyat leader was today issued a passport.

In May, Geelani had applied for the passport online apparently for his travel to Jeddah in Saudi Arabia to visit his ailing daughter.

The separatist leader had then appeared before passport authorities in Srinagar on June 05 and had declared himself as an Indian while completing formalities for travel documents.

However, he had insisted that he did it out of "compulsion".

Talking to reporters outside the passport office, Geelani had said, "I am not by birth Indian. It is a compulsion".

"Geelani submitted his biometric data - finger prints and iris scan - at the designated counter," an official of the Regional Passport Office in Srinagar had said then, as per PTI.

The Enforcement Directorate has summoned Kashmiri leaders Syed Ali Shah Geelani and Yasin Malik for questioning in foreign exchange violation cases, an official said on Wednesday. The official said Yasin Malik, Chairman of Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front, was asked to appear before the central agency on March 28 while Geelani, leading the pro-Pakistan, hardline Hurriyat faction, was directed to appear on April 3.

“We issued separate summonses against Geelani and Malik last week. Geelani has been summoned in a 2002 FEMA (Foreign Exchange Management Act) case in which 10,000 dollars were seized from his residence,” the official told IANS on the condition of anonymity.

“Malik has been summoned in a 2001 case when the Jammu and Kashmir Police seized 1 lakh US dollars from his wife’s possession,” he added.


In June 2002, 10,000 US dollars was found during searches by the Income Tax Department at Geelani’s residence in Hyderpora.

The IT Department summoned the separatist leader in 2003 when he failed to declare the source of the money and was unable to offer satisfactory answers to the IT officials.

The case was later registered by the ED under the FEMA. Since then the case is pending with the ED and the IT Department.

The ED had filed a case against Malik under the FEMA when his wife Shazia Rasool and one Mustaq Ahmad Dar were held by the Jammu and Kashmir Police in 2001 for carrying 1 lakh US dollars.

During questioning, Dar allegedly said the money was received from Nepal-based Altaf Qadri and was to be handed over to Yasin Malik. Qadri works for the All Parties Hurriyat Conference.

Malik was arrested but later released on bail.

The agencies have been struggling to investigate the case to prove Malik guilty as important documents were washed away during the 2014 flood.
