How to plant a tree

The PTI chairman recently announced plantation of one billion saplings next month in the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. This move is indeed encouraging but it is not mere pompous plantation that matters – since billions of saplings planted in the past could not surive due to lack of post-plantation care.

It is sustainability which matters at the end. The goal of one billion requires to be rationally trimmed down to one fourth but focus should be on proper and regular care for nourishing the plantation. It is rightly said that “production is vanity but profit is sanity”. It does not matter how many we plant every year rather how many are finally grown to be full-fledged trees at the end for a better environment, health and economy for the people.

status quo is a state of position that there has been no tree plantation, now we are going to flood tree plantation to change it. nothing to do with politics... as you can clearly see in advertisement, no self or party projection !

If only half the trees claimed to have been planted in Pakistan in such campaigns actually came to be, the whole world would be a forest by now.

Maybe now everything is done on papers only but way back when we had honest people in Pakistan things were actually done properly. They actually planted those number of trees but our villagers will feed them to their live stock or use it as fire wood as soon as they could. Just planting the tree not enough but telling public to protect these trees because few of these trees can make them millionaire in say 20 years.

Exactly. Following through so that the saplings planted grow into trees is the important part where such campaigns have always failed. You are correct in suggesting that the pressures of over-population reduces the chances of survival of these small trees tremendously. This also means that unless specific attention is paid here, this campaign will likely fail for these reasons too.
