Big tourism plans in store for Bangladesh
Rohit Kaul, Cox's Bazar, November 28, 2016

Bangladesh is making aggressive plans to bolster the tourism sector, including drawing up its first investment-focused tourism master plan and developing the beach destination of Cox’s Bazar.

“We expect a full comprehensive master plan for tourism will be ready by end next year. If will focus on investment opportunities available to develop various tourism spots across the country,” said Akhtaruz Zaman Khan Kabir, CEO, Bangladesh Tourism Board (BTB), during the PATA New Tourism Frontiers Forum 2016 in Cox’s Bazar last week.

The master plan will also advise the tourism ministry on potential new destinations and attractions in the country, help frame policy guidelines and human resources training, elaborated Kabir. The BTB has already floated a tender inviting expression of interest from firms.

Meanwhile, tourism investment opportunities are being planned for Cox’s Bazar, including an exclusive 445ha tourist zone that will house hotels, restaurants, amusement parks and other facilities.

The existing airport will undergo expansion to meet the growing number of flights, as international airlines like China Eastern have expressed interest to operate flights to the city.

“China is one of our main international source markets. Direct connectivity from China to Cox’s Bazar will help to attract Chinese tourists to the region,” said Taufiq Rahman, chief executive, Journey Plus.

Bangladesh registered 0.6 million international tourist arrivals in 2015.

It‘s!In 2016 more than 100 millions of Chinese tourists travelled abroad. I guess that many would think of visiting BD instead of the rapist country, my 2c.

There are already a lot resident Chinese in the country. As Chinese investment and project going to multiply in coming years I am sure there would be lot of more Chinese come here. I love resident Chinese here as they live like locals. Everyday I walk to my office and I see quite a few walk like me to get to their office as well. ;)

We will be honored to welcome Chinese tourist in Bangladesh.Apart from natural scenic beauty and exotic wild life, Bangladesh also boost a lot of ancient archeological sites.Do you know, out of five largest ancient Buddhist monument/Vihara in the Sub continent, two are located in present day Bangladesh?

You are an ignorant fool full of hate trolling for some low class fun. Go visit Bangladesh if you like but no need to indirectly attack an country.

@TopCat,@Doyalbara:I just checked the Chinese tourist info about BD. I think that BD government should perhaps consider, as many other countries did, to increase direct air links,to ease the visa application and most importantly to promote BD tourist attactions in China. For instance,a BD tourist visa needs an interview, employer certificate, and etc. For a family of 4,we need to travel to Beijing at least once and spend three days to get the visum stampled.

You should take a look around the forum to just find how many you low class Indians are pissing at China directly or indirectly without any provocation. I don't give a sh't about your country and I'll be rude whenever I see pathetic indian comments on China. Get a life in your own legal forum since the PDF is banned in India!

I think with development of tourism infrastructure, direct connectivity with China(mentioned in this article) as well as visa liberalization will come rather quick.Up until recently tourism was the most neglected sector in Bangladesh, but now govt. is giving a serious look into this sector. With rapid growth of our economy and buildup of tourism related infrastructure I think, the day is not far, when millions of Chinese tourist will comfortably visit Bangladesh.

Now Check out these video of tourist site in Bangladesh.:-)

Although I am not optimistic myself about tourists from the foreign countries, but I am optimistic about this news of operation of flights to Cox's Bazaar by the China Eastern Airlines. I understand that most Chinese people in places far away from Shanghai or the coast lines in the east have very little opportunity to see the seas.

Of course, the newly rich Chinese visit US, EU, Japan, and Singapore in millions. But, people from areas surrounding Kunming City may also visit our CTG and Cox's Bazaar, as well. I think, there is a good prospect of tourism by the middle Chinese to our SE.

Sorry, youtube is barred from China. I think that I would study the possibility and feasibility to visit BD one day! How are the domestic links in BD? If one starts from CTG and back from Dhaka.

Why are you not optimistic? Is this because of poor infrastructure, lack of site seeing or because of Bangladesh is a muslim country? Bangladesh have no shortage of tourist attraction, Infrastructure will rapidly improve and being muslim country is not a barrier to welcome the foreign tourist.Turkey,UAE,Malaysia,Indonesia,Egypt,Tunisia,Morocco all are muslim and they have huge tourism industry. Some of them are in the list of top 10.

Bangladesh have hundreds of natural and archeological site which with proper management and advertisement can be made attractive destination. Many countries with fewer tourism attraction is killing in this field. For example, Cambodia,Laos each have only two UNESCO world heritage site and they are effectively utilizing them.

You need great city infrastructure for tourist to come. They will first land in the big cities and spend most of the time in and around city like Dhaka. I dont think Dhaka or Chittagong is ready for tourist yet.

Oh! sorry, I forgot about youtube thing.
For domestic link part,Transport infrastucture between two Cities(Dhaka and Chittagong) is not comparable with China or other East Asian developed counties, but not that cumbersome either.Air travel is most convenient, taking only half an hour.Bus ride usually take five hours and train journey will be around six hours.

Neither I am right now.But in the next ten years, situation will dramatically improve.

They are developing new beaches in Teknaf as far as I know. They should develop only foreigners tourist area with liquor available. At present tourists do not go to Coxs Bazar because of dirty overcrowded beach.

If someone abuses China then confront him or her. Don't get over emotional and become a racist scum. If that is what you are then try to change. There are good and bad everywhere.
