What's new

Big tourism plans in store for Bangladesh .

Oh! sorry, I forgot about youtube thing.
For domestic link part,Transport infrastucture between two Cities(Dhaka and Chittagong) is not comparable with China or other East Asian developed counties, but not that cumbersome either.Air travel is most convenient, taking only half an hour.Bus ride usually take five hours and train journey will be around six hours.

Neither I am right now.But in the next ten years, situation will dramatically improve.

Tourism is the best PR for the country. Thanks a lot!

You need great city infrastructure for tourist to come. They will first land in the big cities and spend most of the time in and around city like Dhaka. I dont think Dhaka or Chittagong is ready for tourist yet.

Thank you! I’ll try it out.

Why are you not optimistic?

Unfortunately you have focused on only the starting sentence of my post and disregarded the subsequent comments. I have my own mind and I have visited at least 16 countries in three Continents to know what good or bad BD attractions are for the foreign tourists.

Read a subsequent @Top Cat post to know what I also think. However, I stick to what I said in my previous post that the flights of China Eastern Airlines to Dhaka/Cox's Bazaar will positively affect Chinese tourist arrival in BD.

May be, may be not. But you sure are a racist bigot.
I am sorry about the very impolite comments in my previous post that you have referred to. Now, I have erased that part. Please delete also the same part from your post. Anyway, a discussion forum among many nationalities may not be good for a person's mental health.

By Iuliia Tore -
May 8, 2017

Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts is set to open a 210-room hotel in Bangladesh in the third quarter of 2018. The business and leisure hotel will feature a retail wing and is located in one of Bangladesh’s main commercial and tourism centres in the northeast of the country.

Sylhet, known as the “land of boundless beauty”, is considered one of the most spectacular tourism destinations in Bangladesh. The scenic city is surrounded by tropical forests, such as the Lawachera Rainforest.

Guests at Mövenpick Hotel Sylhet Bangladesh will be able to relax in the rooftop infinity swimming pool and indulge in signature treatments at the spa. A fitness centre, tennis court and bowling alley complement the adjacent shopping area, which covers 12,600 sqft of retail space. In addition, the hotel will feature an all-day dining restaurant, speciality bistro and lounge. With a well-equipped business centre and the city’s largest meeting rooms, the hotel will also appeal to the growing number of business travellers.

According to the IMF, Bangladesh was the second-fastest growing major economy globally in 2016, at a rate of 7.1%. The country, with a population of 163 million people, recorded over 500,000 overseas arrivals last year.

Mövenpick Hotel Syhlet Bangladesh is just a few minutes from Sylhet Osmani International Airport. The destination’s verdant landscape of rolling hills and streams offers numerous opportunities to explore nature. Pangthumai Waterfall is referred to as the Amazon of Bangladesh, while Jaflong hill station is famed for its stone collections and being home to the Khasi tribe. The city also boasts the largest tea garden in the world, at Srimangal.

Significant investment on cards to turn Mohamaya Lake into tourism hotspot

Mohamaya, the scenic location of the country’s second largest lake, is hampered from becoming a tourism hotspot by a lack of publicity and investmentWikimedia

'This is an astonishing tourism spot...but also an utterly neglected one'
The government is in the process of making large scale investment plans to turn Mohamaya, an eye-catching hillside lake in Mirsarai, Chittagong, into a tourism hotspot, reports UNB.

Currently, the scenic location of the country’s second largest lake suffers from a lack of publicity, adequate infrastructure and maintenance.

Akbaruddin Ahmad, former president of Tour Operators Association of Bangladesh (TOAB), said the reason for the lack of publicity was that the Bangladesh Tourism Board (BTB), who is responsible for branding and promoting tourist sites, was not doing anything about it.

According to UNB, BTB CEO Md Nasir Uddin confirmed that he had little knowledge of the site as it was outside of BTB’s maintenance jurisdiction. He added that he would gather more information about Mohamaya before taking steps to make the location more popular among tourists.

“An approach road from Dhaka-Chittagong Highway and the roads that were constructed in the lake area are in very bad shape,” said local businessman AKM Nurul Alam, adding that security was also an issue.

Echoing his comments on the rundown state of the lake area, Humauyn Kabir, a Bangladeshi expatriate living in Canada, lamented the amount of rubbish he saw at Mohamaya, as well as the number of slums, during a recent visit.

“This is an astonishing tourism spot, with a charming hillside lake and pristine natural beauty, but also an utterly neglected one,” he said.

Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon told UNB that they were already working on plans to develop the spot and improve its branding, both at home and abroad.

“We’ve already talked to the local MP [Housing and Public Works Minister] about Mohamaya Lake, and we’ll take the required steps to make the site even more attractive and catch the attention of tourists,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mirsarai Upazila Nirbahai Officer (UNO) Zia Ahmed Suman said the government had taken some initiatives to make the spot more secure and attractive, including improvement of the approach road, setting up of an Ansar camp, construction of washrooms and toilets, and replacement of engine-run boats with battery-run ones.

The UNO added that he had already informed the authorities concerned about the increasing presence of slums and they would soon be removed.

On December 29, 2010, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the Mohamaya Lake and Irrigation Project, situated two kilometers east of the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway.

Best of luck to BD. I think coastline areas and sunderbans has much potential as well. But you need to invest there to draw some traffic away from Phuket etc.

. .
It‘s!In 2016 more than 100 millions of Chinese tourists travelled abroad. I guess that many would think of visiting BD instead of the rapist country, my 2c.

We would accommodate the Chinese with open arms, our mehman dari (welcoming of guests) is like no other.

Truly Mirsharai is a heaven for the wild nature lover .So many waterfalls, forest trail ! There is also a beautiful lake,Mohamaya lake, I have posted about here in this thread. It would be a great place to develop adventure/wild trail tourism.Mirsharai should be promoted like that of Nilgiri or Sajek valley.
