I haven't seen the US roll out and court any subcontinental country like this since Suhrawardy (and later Ayub Khan) arrived in DC in the late 50's and early 60's!

Pres. and Mrs. Kennedy went to the tarmac to receive Pres. Ayub (and his daughter?) personally back then with full marine band and guard of honor reception.

For the immediate situation - look at the size of the table and the people assemblage for the Bangladesh FM and Blinken meeting....

And then you have Biden sending love letters to Hasina...

This amount of courtship is scary to some extent.....

they are very desperate at the moment but it seems so far Bangladesh is treading very carefully but it will become difficult with time! and yeah the big question is what is it that they need, my information on Bangladesh is very limited only a Bangladeshi member can shed some light on it.

yeah they never leave, just look at my country... court being opened at 10-11 at night just to support this entire episode of treason... they will eat up your society and corrupts everything! Best Bangladesh ca do is just keep its head down, keep working on the economy and let geopolitics just slide away! americans don't leave anything behind!!!

Yeah I know bro. I know very well how they fucked Pakistan up since 2001. Pakistan despite it's many shortcomings would not have the economic woes had these Americans not invaded Afghanistan and destabilized Pakistan.

Yeah exactly. But the problem is americans are one of the most dirty nations in the world and the international world is still unipolar , the Chinese are not ready to do these kind of forceful things, so smaller states like Pakistan, Bangladesh are at the mercy of US. If they really want Bangladesh on their side than it would be impossible for Bangladesh to reject their proposal!

Look at a map and think about why the US may need Bangladesh.

I think the government will try to remain neutral and not let the Americans setup any base there. We can't afford to burn bridges with China. China also needs to up it's game frankly, their so called strategic patience will come back to bite them. I also hope the Russians massively escalate the Ukraine war to the point NATO gets involved. Let the whiteys fight while we get some respite.

They tried to court India then, Modi happened, and it didn't work out.
Now, since both India, and Pakistan are lost cause, they went to Bangladesh as their last option in South Asia

India was their great hope.

But I guess not!

This of course opens up some doors for Pakistan in regards to US relations.

Watching the video footage I remember another occasion unrelated to the present topic. When Sk. Mujib visited Japan in 1974 (?), he was personally received by the then PM Tanaka at the airport.

Usually, a Japanese PM does not receive a foreign leader. But, Mujib had a higher standing throughout the world and hence the Japanese PM received him personally. He was regraded equivalent to Nelson Mandela.

President Ayub Khan lost his personal and national glamour when he initiated a war against India in 1965 that he did not win. America did not endorse this war. Since then relationship between Pakistan and the USA remained tense except during the Afghan war.

Mujib lost his (inter)national standing after he failed to address the national issues and did not receive Western helps to build/ re-build the country. He was fond of his Socialism.
