Bid welcome to the new power-brokers in Yemen - The Houthis :)

......

Looks like both sides are rushing. Houthis are rushing to take over central towns and Saudis are rushing to arm tribal groups. Iran might it get itself in a war of attrition(which is objective of Saudi). But Saudi doesn't study long term effects of their strategies. It will in long run lead to further empowerment of AQ. Then both sides(Saudi and Iran) will seek coalition against AQ in Yemen. And all Saudi progress will be lost. Saudi tries utilizing strategy of countering Iran but hoping in process not to make Sunni Islamist stronger.

This is policy that won't work and Saudi quickly needs to make up its mind. It either allows Houthis to control Yemen or accepts Sunni Islamist rise if it wants to counter Houthis. It can't have best of both worlds.

Saudis are Waiting and Watching because they got their Hands Tied here. If they Arm Sunni Tribesmen then there is a Possibility that those weapons would end up in Alqaida's Firepower as we have saw that in Iraq and if they went inside Yemen against Houthis then there is a possibility that both opposing Side Gang up against Saudis. In current Scenario even NATO and USA cant help them over there because they are busy in Iraq and Syria and even Saudis cant Afford to launch an Offensive because they also got their hands full at Iraq Border.

EDIT: Al Arabiya is claiming AQ,others are claiming some tribal militias did so

EDIT: almost everyone says it was tribal militia not AQ

saudis doing what they do best watching
Al salol are rather to see shia government in Yemen better to them than the MB government because they don't want another sunni Islamist model like MB or any other movements that will be threat to them

Good example in Egypt in the past when nasser the republican secular was threat to them they supported islamists against him

Today they support a secular military dictator like sisi who is another copy of nasser

Yemen's neighbours demand UN action to halt rebel advance

Gulf Cooperation Council warns of possible intervention if no action taken against Houthis, who have taken control of Sana’a

Yemen’s Gulf Arab neighbours warned on Sunday that if the world failed to act against the Shia rebels who have toppled the Yemeni government, the six-nation Gulf Cooperation Council would take whatever action it deemed necessary to maintain regional security and stability.

The foreign ministers of the GCC did not elaborate on what the measures might be but they called on the United Nations security council to intervene. The ebels, known as Houthis, control the capital, San’aa, and recently forced the resignation of the president and dissolved the parliament.

The security council was scheduled to discuss a draft resolution on the Yemen issue on Sunday evening in New York.

The GCC ministers warned that if it failed to adopt a resolution that would allow for the use of military force “over the Houthis’ illegitimate seizure of power,” then the GCC states of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman and the United Arab Emirates might intervene on their own.

“In the case of failure to reach an agreement... the GCC member states will take measures which enable them to maintain their vital interests in the security and stability of Yemen,” the foreign ministers said in a joint statement following their emergency meeting late on Saturday in Saudi Arabia.

They also demanded the implementation of a UN resolution that imposes sanctions against anyone “hampering the process of peaceful transition of power” and called for urgent action to ensure the safety of the Yemeni president, Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi, who resigned last month after the Houthis put him under house arrest.

The GCC ministers met last month in a similar emergency meeting in Riyadh and condemned the Houthi takeover, calling it a “terrorist act” and a “coup against legitimacy.” The council demanded that the rebels withdraw from the presidential palace, fearing the Houthi offensive could fracture Yemen, bolster Shia-led Iran in the region and threaten the Arabian Peninsula’s stability.

Yemeni officials say Saudi Arabia, a staunch US ally, was sending arms and funds to tribesmen in Yemen’s Marib province to bolster them against the rebels. Saudi Arabia, which shares its southern border with Yemen, has not commented about the claims it is arming or funding tribesmen there to fight the rebels.

Egyptian security officials say it has set up a special rapid deployment force that could intervene if the Houthis threaten shipping lanes in the strategic Red Sea. The Egyptians and Saudis are coordinating a joint military response to deal with any eventuality in Yemen, including the disruption of shipping through the corridor that runs past Yemen to Egypt’s Suez canal, the officials said. The officials in both Yemen and Egypt spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorised to talk to the media.

Wonder if the GCC will truly intervene, have my doubts. The Shias will fight hard, with or without Irans support.

Exactly what Alqaida Wants. They want to replicate same strategy that ISIS was able to apply in Iraq by creating Fierce Conflict then offer support in Exchange for JOINING and then try out their Blood Bath all Across Arab Peninsula.

Their Strategic Aim would confined to Capturing any Vital Yemeni Port because if they do that then they can Easily Provide and also call Sumali Terror Groups for Help and also creating huge Piracy Threat to Oil Supply in that region by working together with Yemeni Terror Group.
