Indeed, while ZAB did pander to the Mullahs some--first by bowing to the mullah-pressure and declaring Ahmadis as non-Muslims and then trying to win elections by appearning 'religious'; but no where he did brainwashing of Pakistanis like Zia did. We need to look at the context and the level of changes in society. We can discuss the Pakistan of 1977 vs the Pakistan of 1988 some other time.

For now, I welcome Bilawal's statement. Indeed by rightfully calling the supporters of killers as the real 'Blasphemer' Bilawal has exposed himself to be marked for death by these fanatics roaming the streets, the living rooms, and the blogspace of Pakistan. Are we going to acknowledge courage only when a person dies? Before too long he will be in the hateful, shark-infested waters of Pakistan where his words about Taseer may end up killing him. We liberals need to accept and appreciate help regardless of where it comes from.

And let's not forget to see who is standing up to the fanatics in the Pakistani political space right now, however little it may: Taseer was killed. Sherry is under a so-called Fatwa to be killed. Now Bilawal has crossed some fanatics' line. All these are PPP leaders. This is not enough but better than other political parties.

As to those who say that Bilawal cannot have a middle name of 'Bhutto', I think they forget that genetically Bilawal is half from Benazir Bhutto. Giving the 'Bhutto' name only to Murtaza implies a conformation to some male-oriented bigotry.

This is getting off-topic. I have no desire to watch Zia's face. I have seen it for 11 years and that was enough. He single handedly ruined Pakistan in his 11 years of absolute mis-rule.

But, if you insist how the Pakistani look at Zia, here it is:

This is not a PPP vote; in fact, the entire site has far too many anti-Zardari, anti-PPP voices.

But Zia was so cruel, so morally bankrupt, so damaging to Pakistan that a whopping 42% of Pakistanis say that he did 'most harm' to Pakistan. If the poll is taken now it may be even worse for Zia.
