What's new

Bhangra

Jinnah, was right.. Sikhs were going to stay in Pakistan it was only after the Pathans starting killing people in Rawalpindi, then retalitation then yea...

I'd be careful of that though, right now Punjab decides the elections period. Splitting it, splits us, and you'll see what happens. You'll have the core of punjab remain punjabi, while the rest turn into w.e the crock-pots in the capitals and their goray overlords think of.

Just look at Haryana, and H.P

--
We should've known that pahari ppl don't like us; the British surrendered at Modne the last battle of the first sikh-british war. And it was a dogra gulab singh who shot Nalwa in the back, the pathans didn't move for a whole week against vastly fewer of us, just cuz of his name, they wouldn't believe he could be dead.

What if there wasn't betrayal, we wouldn't have a forum called defence.pk right now. We'd have our own state, and laugh at the gaddarstan folks as they try to find the new low point in being a sold out ghudhda.
---
Is there a drug problem there too?

edit - You guys post fast, @KingMamba93 would you be a apart of gaddarstan?

From what I read Jinnah offered Sikhs an autonomous state in Punjab if they joined Pakistan but they steadfastly refused as Nehru had promised you guys something else. However than the killings started on both sides (be honest everyone was killing each other doesn't matter who started it both sides will toss blame on the other) and the rest is history. Also than Nehru backtracked once partition was complete and did not accomodate any of the Indian Punjabi demands he agreed to.

haha ur urdu n punjabi sux like mine...

Par main Amreeka main pedaish or aap Pakistan toh nakami tum ho. :D

@G.Singh what is this gaddaristan lol?? My family is from Sailkot and Lahore, the rest of my extended family are from Multan, Faislabad, and Amritsar so we would be a part of whatever those areas had joined. My family were not political power brokers at the time. :cheesy:

Bhangra is a punjabi dance which is famous in Punjab of Pakistan, every province of Pakistan has its own dance like sindhi dance according to the culture and like wise balochi and pashto dance! Punjabi is spoken only in punjab and more in its rural areas than cities because urdu is our national language!

I never came across Punjabis of Pakistan doing Bhangra. All they listen to Indian music.

Liar,Sikhs were going to stay because they thought they had the upper hand. Not because of any love to Jinnah or Muslims.Little history leson will do some good.

March 1947 was a defining month. The author reconstructs the outbreak of violence in Rawalpindi on the basis of interviews. The initial clash was provoked by Hindu and Sikh protesters on March 5, a fact that Justice G.D. Khosla's disgracefully partisan report does not mention. The author writes: “The attacks began on the evening of March 6, when the Muslims turned away from the city because the Sikhs were heavily armed, and instead headed towards the nearby villages. Between December 11-14, 2004, Ahmad Salim and I visited some of the villages in the Rawalpindi district that were attacked in 1947. We avoided visiting Thoa Khalsa, whose story has been made unforgettable by Urvashi Butalia in her classic work The Other Side of Silence (2000). Thoa Khalsa is located close to Kahuta, where the principal Pakistani nuclear enrichment plant is located. In Freedom at Midnight, Larry Collins and Dominique Lapierre depicted the agony of Kahuta – a rather large village of 2,000 Hindus and Sikhs and 1,500 Muslims – in the following words:

‘A Muslim horde had descended on Kahuta like a wolf pack, setting fire to the houses in its Sikh and Hindu quarters with buckets of gasoline. In minutes the area was engulfed in fire and entire families, screaming pitifully for help, were consumed by the flames. Those who escaped were caught, tied together, soaked with gasoline and burned alive like torches.'”

Around 3,000 people were killed. In a special report to Mountbatten dated April 16, Jenkins wrote: “The communal proportions have not been accurately reported, but I should say that among the dead are six non-Muslims for every Muslim. Mr Liaquat Ali Khan can hardly realise the terrible nature of the rural massacre. One of my troubles has been the extreme complacency of the League leaders in the Punjab, who say in effect that ‘boys are boys'. I have no doubt that the non-Muslims were provocative in the cities, but the Muslims had been equally provocative during their agitation and had in particular murdered a Sikh constable in Amritsar.” The author notes that “at the outbreak of rioting in Rawalpindi the Sikhs enjoyed the upper hand for a couple of days until the tide turned on March 6. That evening, Muslim raiders headed towards predominantly Sikh villages surrounded by a sea of Muslim villages and hamlets. Such villages were attacked by large mobs, sometimes running into several thousands, which easily overwhelmed the resistance that was offered. The pogroms and carnages that took place were undoubtedly genocidal – well-planned and executed with the intention of killing. That the Sikhs killed their own women only makes that episode more tragic; it is the code of honour of those times that dictated such behaviour, which outsiders might describe as ‘bizarre'.”

The complacent assumption that the partition of Punjab would not entail massacres and migrations was totally unrealistic. By the second week of May, violent attacks increased. Intelligence agencies reported it and the Punjab Governor passed on that information to Mountbatten. Predictably administrative measures proved grossly inadequate.

Horrors of Partition

@Gigawatt maybe you were only in the cities, or it depends on location. If you are in the west, youth here are kind of 'sell-outs' I had some kid from lyalpur tell me yea but we're different. I was thinking yea cuz we have same color eyes and face. :P

I never ever came across Bhangra from Pakistan, they all care about adjusting to Lakhnavi tehzeeb. All I heard of some dances of Pashtuns.

@mamba not placing blame it's the timeline, cuz otherwise most sikhs would have stayed in pakistan. 40%+ were on the 'other' side. There wasn't a better offer from Nehru, the leaders were just sold on congress gold. So the Khalsa Empire breaks because of gaddar, same here.

Gaddaristan is hindustan.

Really?

The article emphasizing sikhs being heavily armed which is part of our code. So, we were going to stay in our homeland because of an upper-hand, or if you ask people there that didn't want to leave their home and only left when they thought they would be killed..

I see, like your masters you attempt to Divide and conquer.

edit - I'm not going to grace your post with a proper response, but I see that this is an indian national magazine, the grouping together of hindus and sikhs was enough for me to tell, clicking on link confirmed it.

Now, author probably isn't Punjabi, I know you aren't; so there was some mystical hatred between sikhs and muslims that would make them split apart?

Pretty much the only hindus left in punjab are bramins, whom everyone and their mother has been spitting on. Try again.

My family being Muslim were pro Pakistan but they had no intention of leaving Sailkot or Lahore so they would have stayed in whatever nation those cities ended up in. If Punjab was not partitioned it would have all been a part of Pakistan anyway imho unfortunatly the violence made the decision to split inevitable. Yes Sikh leaders were pro congress, Muslims and Sikhs had no major problems (my grandmother says they had many hindu and sikh families who just up and left sailkot despite the fact that there was no violence at all in the part of sailkot she was at, same for Lahore people just up and left now how much of this was true or whatever who knows for certain). Even under the Sikh Empire every punjabi lived in peace with one another surely they could have worked out any disputes that arose.

Nawabi culture and Urdu of Luknow.

You got any video of that dance??

Idk, bro. The leaders were sold though, you wanna see real sikh leaders look at bhindrawale, and the sarbat khalsa resolutions of '86. Hindu kunjars and their cronies will tell you lies, but 100,000's don't show up and agree to one thing together; that one thing being khalistan.

Sikh sant-sipahis and muslims are working together in jammu right now..

Talking to my grandfather, people would have left anyway just thinking it's muslim now, how can we have rights here and all that other stuff..

Different time, the violence started after the split tho..

Idc, though my dada's 101, he said look how many raaj I seen, they always change. British, then congress, badal, jathe, and w.e else.

It struck me, when he said congress rule cuz I guess being simple but not stupid the lies about democracy fed to us today, never reached him.. lol.

edit - Britain thought that there would be a sikh state even after partition cuz 25% of the army was and still is Sikh, and there were all the people hardened from fighting during partition. Who knows, quom's sleeping remember that the khalsa is barely 300 years old this is early.

The Indians on this forum tell us Khalistan is a dead deal, what do you think?? Is it still spoken of at all, also would it encompass all of indian Punjabi states that were broken apart? What would its relations be towards Pakistan? I never knew about that Jammu bit. Here in NYC most of the Pakistanis here are punjabi so I always see Punjabi sikhs from India around (a lot of Pakistanis have construction companies here and many sikhs work with them, also sikhs are always at our events) so I always believe Muslims and sikhs get along better than say muslims or hindus. Hindus usually have this sort of "akar" to them lol.

^before you start showering wishes over him, try looking up a proposed map of khalistan. it envisions a major chunk of current pakistan as its territory.

and yes, only morons with no jobs/future think of khalistan. we've already seen what happens to a country founded for a single religion. we indian punjabis aren't going to make that mistake.

Well considering they are supposedly an ISI creation I doubt they would ever get Pakistani territory but I was just surprised to see someone in India who spoke of Khalistan. Anyway it seems you guys have gotten him banned so I digress.

ISI's control over its creations is hardly anything to write home about. but lets not get offtopic.

Idk, that guy seems to be serious but, from your name I get that you're hindu.. your opinion especially with what we hear about the hindu civilians massacres would be different from a sikhs.

If you look at the Punjab water issues where water from beas and sutlej are given as far as rajasthan un-constitutionally it was really the Punjabi farmer. the ISI funded and helped the sikhs, how much of that was to de-stabalize India, and how much of it was punjabi-punjabi only they know..

edit - Idk,I'm from India but I don't like it; my mom always tells me that Indians are very decietful and dis-honest people and if they got him banned.. O well, let's stay on topic of bhangra.

I really like this song, but I can't fully understand it because my Punjabi is bad.

If you type in Khalsa - highflyers you'll see it. My sikh friend showed me it (My family is mixed hindu/muslim).
