‘Beware bearded terrorists,’ Chinese posters warn

Besides, more importantly, no followers of 'some Hindu holy book' (sic) in Russia were involved in any criminal cases, let alone terrorist activities.

I was addressing the principle of "their country, their laws".

Yeah . Beard, scarf and glasses. The trifecta 8-):p:

Funny thing is that, after a certain age, the trend reverses (for people trying to hide their age).

When guys start going bald, they shave their whole head and go for the young, bald, look.
When the beard starts turning grey, guys go clean shaven.

.
Very much so.

I would hope the Chinese authorities are smart enough to understand the wider issue at play here and make every effort to make it clear -- especially to the Chinese citizens -- that their fight is with extremists, not Islam or Muslims.

The fact that certain elements will try to portray this as China's fight against Islam means the Chinese authorities need to go the extra mile and defuse that perception.
Our leadership and official always issue statement on "eliminating extremists in all shape and form, regardless of their religious background". This is very clear. If Muslim world interpret anything otherwise, they should re-examine themselves and should not fall into the trap of Western propaganda. As you know, the West try very hard to create problem for us on a global scale. Anything that hurt our image is their gain. Think of it that way and be cautious when reading any news coming out of the West.

I'm sure you have seen many of the more extreme Chinese members here, ranting and raving about how "pro-minority" the CCP is?

But as long as these terrorist attacks keep happening, there is only a limited amount the CCP can do, especially in the internet age where people get their news from online social networks, rather than the mainstream media.

If it's like you say, and foreign powers are manipulating the world media to present an "us versus them" scenario, then well our countries have some pretty massive fault lines to be exploited. And people ARE buying it, not just the people carrying out attacks but the victims too. And the developing countries are going to be going through a world of pain, in the next few decades.

It sounds like the same BS that was perpetuated about the 'Ramazan Ban' thing !

The following is what the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in answer to a question posed to them by a Journalist :

Question
It has been reported the last week that Muslims in the Chinese province of Xinxiang have been stopped from observing fast during the month of Ramadan and they have been told that fasting is harmful. What is Pakistan’s reaction on that?

Secondly, there are about three hundred Pakistani prisoners in China but they are living in shambles; they have not been offered water for several hours and Halal food. What are your views on that?

Answer
At think in the last briefing, I gave you the details of Pakistanis in Chinese Jails and the nature of crimes for which they have been convicted or are under-trial. I don’t know what is your source of information? But this does not seem to be factually correct because this is not the information we get from our Mission.

As for your second question, these are rumors. It is factually incorrect. The Chinese have clarified that there is no such ban on fasting and that they respect the freedom of religion. They have clarified that they have guidelines in their system under which religious activities should not interfere with state functions.

It's so easy to jump on the "hate China" bandwagon, no one cares about the actual facts.

But don't worry about us, we're used to it. :azn: We've been on the receiving end for decades already.

That's why we are entirely focused on increasing our own relative power in the world, and not worrying what our enemies have to say about it.

Perception is 90% of reality.

That's why I always say that the global media is the West's best weapon of mind control and global domination. Unless others can challenge that domination and present their viewpoint, the West will continue to win the propaganda war.

The CCP is trying hard and being criticized from all angles for being too friendly to minorities.

I support the CCP and their view of the Chinese nation, which includes members from ALL 56 ethnic groups.

But against an onslaught from the global media (which seeps through much more easily than one might think), and from an endless supply of "political tools" who are willing to kill themselves and others to further this agenda, what can be done?

The only silver lining is that at least with our partially controlled media, we are not as bad off as other developing countries.

Exactly brother. Interestingly, I see that Pakistani authorities are well aware of these fault-lines and how some international forces are propagandizing these issues for their own nefarious gain. Please be secure from our side. I've said it before and will say it again, majority of Pakistanis on the street are very well-aware of what's going on in the world and can smell propaganda from a mile.

It's not just the Muslim world who must avoid the trap. Ordinary Chinese must also avoid the stereotypes.

Propaganda plays on human psychology, and psychology is the same for all humans.

We will never be able to win against the West propaganda machine due to the inherent weakness in our ideological and political system. That is something we understand and accept. What we can do is however urge other friends to contact us directly if they need clarity on any issue.

The Western propaganda machine has that angle covered as well. Any time the CCP blocks their propaganda moves, they will tell the Chinese people that they are being censored.

Interestingly enough, no non-Western media gets any prime time spot in Western airwaves, They are all, including AlJazeera, relegated to second rate channels which are only watched by a fringe minority.

Well then they are winning the media war, and considering the enormous ethnic and religious fault lines in Asia, they can look forward to a WW3-like situation if they keep pushing it. Arguably it's already happening in the Middle East.

Agreed. Couldn't have said it better. Heck, even their 'soft stereotyping' goes a long way. Just look at how 'Borat' single-handedly created a new cultural meme about some Eastern countries. Or how their stereotyping of Thai people in some recent movies crystallized into new jokes. International media works wonders when it comes to creating a thing like this.

.
The West propaganda is hilarious sometime. Just to give you an example, they claimed we oppressed religious freedom. On the other hand, they boast Christian is growing rapidly in China. Things don't add up.
