Once show a documentary about a Vietnamese orphan girl.
The girl was a baby when her mother left her on a plane to US during the last chaotic days of the Vietnam war.
She then grew up in US, married and have a family. One day she returned to Vietnam and to look for her mother. She found her and all her extended family. However she was already all Americanised and know not a word of Vietnamese nor culture. Her mother was estatic and immediately ask her to take her and her relatives to US. It was obligation for a Vietnamese to look after their parents, says her relative.
As the pressure piled on, she quit Vietnam and returned home, abandoning her roots altogether.
This is a "kisah benar" true story. Talk about betrayal.
The girl is grew up in Western then she has been abandoning her roots, it's related to western culture. When you talk about betrayal, it's related to where she got an education and grew up, in USA. do you understand the differences ?
