Bell Boeing to brief India on V-22 Osprey

why don't we go for it in large numbrs?it will hlp us in logistic movments!imagine this babe carrying stuffs in those areas without advanced landing grounds

24 troops (seated), 32 troops (floor loaded)
But it could be very useful in Special Ops. Unless India has woken up and decided to join Mil or Kamov for their new gen helicopters like Mi-X1 or Ka90 or Ka92, i think we should purchase V22.

IMO, P8I would be a better platform for AEW and there will be other better alternate for troop transport.
By Combining functions we can end up with a situation that of a swiff knife, which can do all functions , but none of the functions properly.:blink: Jack of all Master of none.
Let there be a dedicated things of different operations.

I think the V-22 has a great chance for use in IN in some pretty significant numbers. It seems ideal in filling multiple IN current and future requirements. The STOBAR based AEWs for which V-22 can be used for IAC-1 and Vikramditya (depending on configuration of IAC-2/3 also).

also the recent IN RFI for a helo for IN's SOAR which must have a2a refueling the V-22 seems to be likely to fill this role. Not to mention utility roles for the Indian Marine Corps that is being set up and for use on the soon to be acquired LPD/LHD. V-22 numbers (AEW and utility) could be 30-45 units atleast.



It seems IN is going for one huge US spending spree, P-8I (24 are confirmed), S-70/MH-60R, V-22, FireScout and MQ-4 UAV (both very likely to be ordered soon) + E-2D for future IN CATOBAR carriers.

There is nothing special to it ,, even mi 26 AND CHINOOK has similar specifications.... and EXEPT its speed is around 450 kmph .. WHAT DIFFERENCE IT HAS WITH HELICOPTERS)............. just an expensive toy thats all to it.

Speed is very much important in some cases, so few V22 would do the job . So we are not going for large numbers .

An AEW would be a costly modification to undertake.
Moreover.. the osprey's "repute" is not all rosy.
Its speed advantage does not apply too much to India's requirements.

for an AEW, whether STOBAR or CATOBAR.. a Helicopter based AEW platform such as one based on the Sea-king or Merlin makes better sense.

As I see it, its just a request for a briefing. And I'm willing to speculate that it may not progress too far beyond that. The likely scenario is that MoD and IN are exploring all options before carrying out the design freeze on IAC 2 and IAC 3. And its no coincidence that the officer (to be briefed etc) mentioned in the news item; V/Adm. Satish Soni is an aviator.

On a slightly related note..
There should be Indian startup's on air taxi companies and other corporate charter businesses that should look into the BA-609.
Much more relevant to the Indian market. The Ba-609 also has a proposed Gunship version which might interest the IA and IAF more.
