Belgium's far-right Vlaams Belang becomes largest party

According to an opinion poll by Belgian media, the far-right party, Vlaams Belang, would have 24.9 percent of the votes and become the largest party of Belgium. The Flemish nationalists (NVA) are losing a few percentages and become the second party with 22.7 percent. In Brussels the Greens would remain the largest with 21.4 percent. In Wallonia the socialist PS and the liberal MR are neck and neck.

Vlaams Belang aims to become biggest Flemish party by 2024

Vlaams Belang launched its “missie 2024” program during a meeting in Ghent on Friday evening.

The Flemish extreme-right party wants to become the biggest political party in Flanders at the next election in 2024.

A poll published by several media outlets early Friday evening indicates they may have already achieved that.

Vlaams Belang is set to get 24.9% of the votes, while the N-VA is expected to get 22.7%

The party also unveiled its new slogan, “Het enige alternatiel” (the only alternative).

The party’s president Tom Van Grieken once again lambasted the “cordon sanitaire” that prevents the extreme-right from claiming a majority.

Been hearing this oft-repeated claim for years now, that the Russians are somehow fueling the rise of the so called "far right" in the EU.

Didn't work out so good for Russia in Ukraine when an actual far right nationalist movement seized power in a dubious coup.

What evidence is there implicating the Russians for the rise of nationalist movements in Europe then ?

Yep. Just blame the Russians. They thought this policy will works forever but it do not work. I really think Europeans consider Europe their own home - they do not mind tourists but they do not want millions of newcomers with different look, religion and culture. This is absolutely understandable - nobody wants such a dramatic changes in their neighborhood. So people find someone who actually listen to their needs.
So called European "far right" are no more than conservatives. They do not have arms unlike Western sponsored Ukrainian Nazi that sized power in 2014 illegal coup.

The rise of Right Wing Nationalism in Europe should not surprise anyone, neither will their demise. The Golden Dawn party in Greece had already meet its fate, this or any other right wing parties will soon meet the same fate. There is little proof that Russians are doing that however the proof that US is backing right wingers in Europe is crystal clear be it Trump,s love affair with hardline brexisters or Marine Le Pen types

I don't think the Russians are doing anything wrt changing political trends and more of western Europe going nationalist.

The entire global media, Merkel and the EU, and other left dominated entities came out in full support of Hillary Clinton in 2015-16 but they lost so Trump's love affair with brexiters and others on that side of the spectrum isn't something Trump is doing exclusively. Besides, in places like Poland, Hungary and the UK, the populists are the duly elected governments. Is he supposed to be scornful of ideological opponents in other countries like Obama was with Bibi because he was a "de facto republican" ?

Trump's handled Merkel, Macron and Junker etc pretty well by comparison.

The US state is not backing anyone in Europe, but it's a free country, and various nationalist groups, some ethno nationalist in nature, have been talking to each other, nothing wrong in that. Islamist groups, communist and socialist groups, all sorts of ideological groups from all over the world talk to each other, nothing nefarious there until they start killing people.

It gets scary when extremists take over a government and the state starts killing people for religious or ethnic identity reasons, so far there is no indication that such a scenario is playing out anywhere on earth. Not in India, or the US or Brazil or The Philippines or UK or Belgiumlol or anywhere.

WTF is up with all this global hysteria about Hitler/fascist/genocide/nazis everywhere ? It's a simple correction, humanity rights the ship that had listed too far left, the post war liberal world order is done, past it's shelf life.. etc

Spot on. Mass immigration from the third world supported by mainstream parties looking for votes has isolated many natives who are, ableit reluctantly, turing to the right to protect their heritage.
