BEL showcases naval range in Kochi
Bharat Electronics Ltd. has sharpened its research and focus on products for the Navy, according to its chairman and managing director Anil Kumar.
At a naval technology seminar and exhibition at the Southern Naval Command, Kochi, on Friday, Mr. Anil Kumar said, We have beefed up our R&D efforts in making the latest technology available to the Navy, according to a press release issued here.
The defence public enterprise has also split the Naval Systems strategic business unit in Bangalore into two to improve performance. The Product Support Centre set up in Kochi liaises with the Naval Ship Repair Yard, Cochin Shipyard Ltd. and the defence research labs located in the region.
BEL makes radars, electronic detection and communications devices for the three armed forces. Its new generation of sonars, radars, radio, fire control and electronic warfare systems go into ships, submarines and naval aircraft that are to be inducted by the Navy.
Product support
We attach great significance to product support. Recently, BEL revisited the existing processes in product support and brought about much needed improvements in enhancing lifecycle support for our products, Mr. Anil Kumar told the seminar attended by Cmde. S.D. Murthy, Chief Staff Officer (Technical), Southern Naval Command, senior naval officers and BELs top management.
Speaking of indigenous products for the force, Vice-Admiral Satish Soni, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Naval Command, said BEL had a big role to play in turning the Navy from a buyers Navy into a builders Navy.
Starting with the Western Naval Command, Mumbai, in 2010, BEL has been hosting the annual naval technology seminar at one of the naval commands, according to the press release.
