What's new

Beholden Unto Thee ! His Imperial Majesty's 2nd Carrier [KAGA] Launched into His Imperial Fleet!

China economy in 1999s-2000 grow 20% year on. That time miracle growth. Yea Jiang could be corrupt but China economy grow massive cuz him. No one deny that no one can do that beside Jiang.
He is the BOSS of CCP during 1990s, in the world there's not clean BOSS only smarter ... i just point out here. Another side, Jiang is the famous defender of CCP during 1989~1991 China social unrest when former USSR collapsing ... saved CCP and made new enemies.

@cnleio also HK , Mcau return to China during Jiang. Remember.
That's Deng did, not Jiang (the mayor of ShangHai city before Jiang into central government, until to 1989 unrest) ... after Deng, Jiang performed well his responsibilities.

To remind people of their ww2 fascists "glories", the new ships have adopted again the identical names of warships which have sent the world to the periods of dark ages into massive destructions, massacres and the most barbaric crimes to humanity!!!

I dont know if people who were congratulating the jpnese on this front have missed or ignored that point!

And in fact the version of the imperial warship(s) which were deployed in ww2 bearing the same name as the new vessel (s) were pasted in some postings such as # 6 and/or 20

I see these moves by the jpnese as provocations

@TaiShang haha, looks like the Indian was not wrong after all. Typical!

@Nihonjin1051 No need to apologize. It was war and long time ago. I believe he had difficult time but so did everybody else, it was war after all. He has been gone from the world for nearly 15 years.

Those black white pictures are amazing. You can almost hear the engines sputtering and firing up. Great stuff.

Its OK, i know some Chinese here are pissed, some are bitter, some are even jealous.:D Well Japan that time was indeed a world power, more powerful than even some major European colonial powers at the time. In act if Japan had played its card right, it would have been among the 4 Great powers(along with the U.S/Great Britain, and Russia) to carve out/rule the world(Asia included). Japan was in a hurry, and inexperienced in foreign/international diplomacy. You always try as much as possible to avoid fighting a full scale war against another great/big power. There is little to gain and more to lose, even when/if you win the war. That's something we learnt during our centuries of rule over the world. Even at the height of the British empire, The royal Navy hardly ever attacked/launch a full blown war against another great Power(even thought we did have the largest/most powerful naval fleet and ruled the world back then). Anyway, Japan made the wrong moves/decisions which led to its defeat. So it has only itself to blame as winner takes it all. lol I can understand some Chinese members fustrated, since back then China was a backward agrarian country(a semi failed state), which led to Japan invading China, Coupled with the fact that due to today's reality, you can't invade/fight a war with major/big power anymore. So China might never have its revenge. lol

Anyway,Coming back to topic. Japan indeed has some of the world best ship building tech(maybe the top 2-3 in the world). So its no surprise the KAGA is such a masterpiece. Japan indeed has the capabilities to build a full scale aircraft carrier, unlike many other powers, its only its constitution that still stops it from doing so. Hopefully that will soon be revised/changed, since the world has changed alot, the past is the past. We have to move on. I want to see Japan build something in the class of our MIGHTY ELIZABETH CLASS CARRIER.:bunny:

Well done @Nihonjin1051 , this light carrier is a masterpiece. Just confirms that Japan still has the best shipbuilding tech in Asia.:agree::cheers:

Well, to be honest, it wasn't unheard of for the Imperial Navy to convert Battleships to Carriers. In fact, some of the greatest Aircraft Carriers ever to be commanded in the Imperial Navy's Combined Fleet were actually Battleships converted into Carriers.
That observation/criticism is irrelevant.

The aircraft carrier as an instrument of naval warfare is essentially new. Keep in mind that ships of all types have been around for thousands of yrs. But a ship that can carry and deliver airpower is less than 90 yrs old. There were technical issues that engineers discovered and compensated for as the concept evolved and ships built. As such, using existing ship keels and adapt from there made absolute common sense.

On the other hand, built upon existing platforms such as cruiser or tanker hulls have inherent limitations, but that is no longer the case. An aircraft carrier requires stability more than speed, so it must have a hull shape appropriate for stability. The aircraft carrier as a distinct class of ship in terms of engineering matured post WW II. The ship must be designed as a standalone engineering project, not adaptations from anything else. Modern day aircraft carriers, outside of appearance, are nothing like their WW II ancestors.

Regardless of WW II, today's Japan and the Japanese Navy have every right to be proud of this ship that further cement Japan's high status in engineering and military stature.

Your maturity and kindness is a blessing, my friend. You honor me. I raise my thoughts to your grand-uncle, may he enjoy his place in Paradise. Thank You, again, my friend. Thank You.

True , but sorry@Nihonjin1051, but doesn't beat the Mighty Queen Elizabeth Class carrier which will be unleashed into our Royal imperial naval fleet next year. SO BEHOLD.:P

Such a beautiful , beautiful, gorgeous, Warship of Her British Majesty's Royal Fleet ! I hope Japan can follow the footsteps of the Great ROYAL NAVY ... in terms of ship building, fleet warfare tactics, fleet interoperability skills, and comprehensive marksmanship, professionalism, dedication, loyalty, and superior service culture.

God Save Her British Majesty, Queen Elizabeth of the United Kingdom and British Empire !

@mike2000 is back

Thank you for your astute points, Sir. I resign to your wisdom.

The 24,000 ton vessel is the second and the final ship of this class, following another helicopter carrier named “Izumo,” which was launched in August 2013 and came into service in the Japanese Maritime Self Defense Force (JMSDF) in March 2015.

Officially named after the Japanese province of Kaga, the new ship has sparked controversy, since it shares the name of an aircraft carrier that was deployed by Japan during WWII.

The original Kaga took part in the bombardments of the China’s eastern coast including the cities of Shanghai and Nanjing in 1937. Later, it also was a part of the naval group that attacked Pearl Harbor in December 1941. Eventually, the ship was sunk by the US navy in the Battle of Midway in June 1942.

The Chinese found the choice of the name offending, with the countries’ media outlets reminding of the bombings carried out by planes launched from the original Kaga warship. This name “might be perceived as a symbol of resurrected militarism,” said chinanews.com.

China’s media also reports that another Japanese new helicopter carrier – Izumo – also has a controversial predecessor – a cruiser lending artillery support to the Japanese troops during the capturing of Shanghai in 1937 during the Second Sino-Japanese war.

Japanese officials said that the primary roles of the two modern helicopter carriers are peaceful, such as humanitarian aid and disaster relief operations. However, they have also mentioned that the ships could be used in anti-submarine warfare.

The ships “heighten our ability to deal with Chinese submarines that have become more difficult to detect,” a JMSDF officer told Japan’s Asahi Shimbun newspaper in March.

Kaga will carry seven Mitsubishi-built SH-60k anti-submarine patrol helicopters able to detect sophisticated Chinese submarines as well as seven Agusta Westland MCM-101 mine countermeasure helicopters, according to the US Naval Institute's News.

However, the ships also have potential to launch American the built assault transport MV-22 as well as Lockheed Martin F-35 Lighting II Joint Strike Fighter with the short takeoff and vertical landing.

Japan denies any plans for the helicopter carriers to host any Joint Strike Fighters with some Japan’s neighboring countries claiming that the ships’ configuration itself allows them to serve as aircraft carriers.

The aircraft carriers are considered to be offensive weapons and are banned under the Japanese constitution.

Kaga will become Japan’s fourth helicopter carrier as, apart from Izumo, two 18,300-ton Hyuga-class helicopter carriers are also in operation with the Japanese Maritime Self Defense Force.
