I don't know if it's banned in Kashmir or not but it should be?
Every creature is holy in Hinduism

In the Bhagavad Gita Lord Krishna says 'Sarva Yonishu Kaunteya' (BG, 14.4): “In every living being there is a spirit soul.” That means even in the animals there is a soul, so we do not have the right to kill or eat flesh.

Actually it's less Hinduism and just plain commonsense to understand that slaughtering animals is wrong

Then why just cow?

And why is it holy?

The question remains.

Once you reach that state of Mind of "Aham Brahmasmi" you can quote what you like, advaita etc.
But ,saying things before really attaining such state is like a Kindergarten kid(who has no idea of Ph.d) trying to act as Ph.d Professor, and those who reach that state, generally don't eat any Meat or vouch for killing of Cows or eating beef.

You can't even follow simple rules and yet you talk of grand and lofty ideals. How can such a person do that?
You pass School then you join College,University and so on.
If you cannot even follow rules at a School level ,how do you expect people to believe that you will follow the rules at a University level?

What Pakistan does it not our concern here. There are simple rules. We are not killing or persecuting anyone by Banning Cow slaughter and ban on Beef, like Ahmedis are hunted in Pakistan without any reason,we are not doing that.
Comparing Pakistan with India is like Apples and Oranges.Or perhaps you like Pakistan better because it allows you to Eat Beef and live upto your liberal lifestyle.

Why a cow is holy?

Simple and precise answer.

Not because its written in book would suffice..... there are hundreds of discontinued rituals we dont follow in modern society.

why it is holy...whats so special???

Well as I stated earlier all life forms are holy as per Hinduism and should be respected, more so cows because of their giving nature, their association with Lord Krishna, as you stated their importance in ancient India etc etc

And the Kshatriya kings and people never hunted for game or food and they all lived happily ever after.

End of story.

Its not a giving nature... we actually take stuff from cows.... just like we milk... goats, camels cows also do.

As you stated earlier that sacrificing animals was part of Hindu rituals then but we are no longer living in medieval times that one should get away with barbaric practices, you may not believe in the holy books but other Hindus do, why is cow holy?

In the 11th (11.11.43) Canto of Shrimat Bhagwatam Krishna told his beloved cousin Udhava that he can be worshiped by offering cow grass and other suitable grains. Worshiping cow is equal to worshiping Krishna.

According to Skanda Purana, One can demolish all his sinful acts by simply offering respect to the cow's. If we maintain and serve a cow in a nice manner then we can not only catch Krishna's attention and but we can please Krishna as well. Krishna is kind with those who save cows and protect them. He is delighted by any effort done to serve a cow and he never even forgets us if we benefit cow. As an animal cow is very lovable, simple and gentle, what we can do to serve her is we can buy grain for her, feed her every time we get an opportunity and we can donate the cow to an institution where they are treated with utmost care. From time immemorial, in India, the Vedic tradition has encouraged an Agrarian based civilization. Cows have always played a pivotal role in the Vedic Agrarian society. The Cow is revered as the most sacred animal to Hindus, a fact that is evidenced by the dedication of several hymns and rituals, reverentially addressing it as GOMATHA (divine mother cow) in all the sacred scriptures including Vedas and Puranas. Gomathaa is a symbolic representation of 33 crore Gods who are said to hold positions in various parts of a cow's body. As a representation of the divine, all auspicious ceremonies and rituals involve the Cow and its produce. Everything from, milk, butter, ghee, curd, cheese, even the cow's dung and urine are considered very sacred in Hindu Vedic tradition.

There are many posts in this thread, describing why a cow is holy go through them.
No beef in Vedas

You can keep questioning why it is like this, why not like that etc.
There are certain rules to be followed, just like in Yoga you follow Patanjali Yoga sutras, without following them Yoga is a mere exercise and hence cannot be called Yoga.
Same with Hinduism, there are certain rules you need to follow.

Point here is , you had enough proof given here in this thread, yet you still keep asking me for answers.
You are acting like a Sickular now,who even when provided ample proof will argue, that what Sanatana Dharma said is wrong. That is your Ego speaking, not you. Ego,which cannot accept losing, even though they are on the wrong side.

This is a misconception.

All milch creatures under our protection is to be protected from harm. More emphasis is given to cows since the formed the largest domesticated animal in the household.

Anyone under human protection has to be protected at ALL cost. This includes ALL Domesticated Animals. This is because we are responsible for domesticating them, they did not ask to be domesticated.

Once we have assumed this responsibility, it becomes our duty then to protect it from all harm.

It is equally sinful to kill the chicken after taking its egg.

To those who argue for the ban of beef due to spirituality or even "health reasons"... get your priorities right.

This cartoon hits the nail on the head.

If those same scriptures make people to make religion their first priority in life, if those same scriptures prevent people from getting their priorities right (like using freaking sewage systems or toilets), if those same scriptures make people to block roads for ambulances I DONT GIVE A SINGLE SH*T about them...

Keep living in the past loser
