All of this is very arbitrary, our first aim is to move out of the LDC status by increasing the nominal GNI per capita above $1190 for at least 3 consecutive years, have a healthy forex reserve and improving trade balance etc. All these seem to be falling in place, and within the next few years we expect to achieve middle income status.

I think the BD high officials just encourage and push the industries and labors to give a hard try to develop the economy. So, whatever may be the real meaning of middle income country, it is without such meaning in BD. For BD it is to get just a Developing Country status instead of today's Least Developed Country or LDC status.
