The investigation revealed that although Barisal is a riverine area, boats were not built here. Boats were made and brought from Khulna, Dhaka, Narayanganj, Chittagong or Mongla. Goods or fuel ships were also built in Dhaka and Khulna. In 1964, a dockyard was built on a small scale in the Nayani area of Charkaua Union of Sadar Upazila next to Saheb's Hatkhal by the prominent launch businessman and former municipal chairman late Golam Mawla.

Manjurul Ahsan Ferdous said many skilled craftsmen have been produced in Barisal. It is possible to build world-class ships in their hands. Barisal Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce president Nizam Uddin built a shipyard named Adventure on the east bank when this huge day and night shipbuilding campaign brought success on the west bank of Kirtankhola.
Two water wedges named Adventure-4 and 5 and Adventure-6, 1 and luxury Adventure-9 have been built at his shipyard. M Khan Shipyard is located in the area adjacent to the former Dapadapiya ferry port.
