Bangladesh is about to become the first Muslim-majority country to establish an all-women United Nations peacekeeping force.

The UN has for years been calling for more women to join its peacekeeping operations.

Nine years ago it passed a resolution stating that, because women bear the brunt of armed conflict, they should have an opportunity to help prevent and resolve it.

Al Jazeera's Nicolas Haque reports from Dhaka on the new peace-keeping force.

It would be better if you watch the video. Go Bangladesh! Go Ahead.

I think, women are more serious than men. In Tokyo streets, a policeman may forgive your traffic offence by giving you an warning. But, a police woman will not give you similar treatment. They are very strict. So, our women peacekeepers will be very dutybound and responsible in their jobs in the UN - this is what I think.

It make sense, not to send our ladies to the war zone. Even USA stopped doing it by introducing new law in US congress after Iraq war.

Salute to BD courage.

On the other hand these women still need male counterparts to guard them in conflict zones.

It is not really war zone, but they will be sent to conflict zones. I am not sure, but think of Darfur conflict in Sudan. There are rape victims and these victims may again be subject to further rapes if left in the UN camps without guards.

Since some male troops may themselves indulge in those heineous acts time to time, therefore, it is much safer that the guards are females. A women contingent will secure the safety of female refugees.

Conflict Zones are more dangerouse.

We have female police and need male police to guard them when they are in duty. Also, supervisor of the male police to see that they
(male police) behave properly.

Very right. actually Khabib, women are vulnerable to assault in every conflict zone be they locals common women or from law enforcement outfits, women harassment in normal situation is also there so you can imagine what will be the situation in a war zone or for that matter conflict zones.

in Darfur, Congo or Somalia we have seen the horrible killings and other brutalities irrespective of whether men or women victims so it would be very much risky to put women peacekeepers in such barbaric conflict zones.

This is nothing but Hasina's adventurism... Hope this will be only limited to symbolic participation.
