Three dead in knife attack in French church, woman beheaded

An attacker with a knife killed three people, including a woman who was decapitated, at a church in the French city of Nice on Thursday, police said, in an incident the city's mayor described as terrorism.

Mayor Christian Estrosi said on Twitter the knife attack had happened in or near the city's Notre Dame church and that police had detained the attacker.

Police said two people were confirmed to have died in the attack and several were injured.

A police source said a woman was decapitated. French politician Marine Le Pen also spoke of a decapitation having occurred in the attack.

The attack comes while France is still reeling from the beheading earlier this month of French middle school teacher Samuel Paty in Paris by a man of Chechen origin.

The attacker had said he wanted to punish Paty for showing pupils cartoons of the Prophet Mohammad in a civics lesson.

It was not immediately clear what the motive was for the Nice attack, or if there was any connection to the cartoons, which Muslims consider to be blasphemous.

Since Paty's killing, French officials - backed by many ordinary citizens - have re-asserted the right to display the cartoons, and the images have been widely displayed at marches in solidarity with the killed teacher.

That has prompted an outpouring of anger in parts of the Muslim world, with some governments accusing French leader Emmanuel Macron of pursuing an anti-Islam agenda.

Even more reason for Bangladesh government to maintain neutrality, hell, we should at this point condemn this senseless acts of terror and hate.

No real Muslim can stand for this, condemning this is more important now to protect Islam than burning effigies of Macron.

These people are out to ruin Islam and all the lives of all Muslims in the West, such extremists must be deported from the west and executed as soon as they reach their home countries.

Terror must not get a pass no matter what Macron says or does, there is no justification for beheading a woman and killing civilians.

Long story short guys , we Bangaldeshis are neutral and we don't jump into crazy issues instead watch from the sidelines. France doesn't hate Muslims , neither does Macron otherwise France wouldn't be filled with Muslim refugees.

There's people in Bangaldesh ( who are BRAINDEAD ) that wants to boycott France but doesn't understand we are not capable of going against a technologically advanced economic giant.

Ironically these people who are boycotting France should boycott China by their logic cause China has concentration camps filled with Uygher Muslims.

We are a Muslim country too, we need to show the world that not all Muslims behead people for being different... Our country is a great example of that.

GoB has shown considerable spine by not bowing to public pressure from mullah quarters and fudging up its relationship with EU.

I agree , the only Muslims countries that are advanced are Turkey,Malaysia and Indonesia but again Bangaldesh can show that we are different by showing that we are truly secular and don't get offended easily.

In the west people even joke about Jesus or Bhudda , but when it comes to Muslims they get careful cause you know why

Condemning the acts is just a gesture, it does not mean anything, when holey artisan took place in Bangladesh, they all condemned it and stood by us, silence in this area means you're looking the other way, as Muslim majority country, it's our duty to stand against this and prove that not all Muslims behead people for difference in views.

The fact that we Bangladeshis are even having this conversation instead of praising the attacks and justifying them, goes to show our tolerant and peaceful our ideology and interpretation of Islam is, the right Brand of Islam might I add.
