How is BNP popularity in Bangladesh today? Are they likely to win the next election?

Actually BNP is a continuation of Muslim league from Pakistan period. Later these people started supporting NAP of Bhasani.

Later Ziaur Rahman United them under the name of BNP.

So for sure , if family members of Ziaur Rahman will.be neutralised from politics , then BNP haters like me ( swing voters , not permanent supporter of any party) will be voting for them. Ziaur Rahman's family is not totally opposite to Mr Ziaur Rahman : the best and most kind administrator Bangladesh has ever produced in 50 years.

His son Tareq Rahman ( we call him Tareq chora/ their Tareq) is a criminal hypocrite and thief.

On the other hand the wife of Mr Ziaur Rahman Mrs Khaleda Zia always had been a worthless idiot who even don't deserve a position in municipality , let alone the post of prime minister. She never understood politics and you can't be a mother and a prime minister at the same time.

She is responsible of her son became thief!

But both BAL and BNP has total 25+25% supporters ( more or less ) and it's highly unlikely that they will stop supporting them.

Fortunately many of BAL permanent supporters now realise that BAL is criminal.

I hope permanent BNP supporters will also realise once that family dynasty isn't democracy.

And From that day democracy bill be beneficial in Bangladesh.

Or another third party can get many anti BAL vote in Bangladesh.

Wouldn't really care if the leader isn't mature as long as they're supporting will of the people.

An immature leader can't really support the will of people.

If people want to suicide, a mature leader wouldn't allow them.

Bangladesh prime minister Sheikh Hasina has said that they look forward to working together with India in the next 50 years and beyond towards realising the shared vision of building a peaceful and prosperous region.

‘The year 2021 was a historic one for the Bangladesh-India relationship, marked by celebrations of epochal events and engagements at the highest levels,’ she said in a message to her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi on the occasion of the Republic Day of India.

On behalf of the government and the people of Bangladesh and on her own behalf, Sheikh Hasina extended her warmest wishes and heartiest felicitations to Modi and the people of India on the occasion of the 73rd Republic Day of India.

The prime minister thankfully recalled Modi’s visit to Dhaka in March 2021 to join the celebrations of the Golden Jubilee of the Independence of Bangladesh, the birth centenary of father of the nation Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, and 50 years of establishment of diplomatic ties between Bangladesh and India.

‘Your gracious presence on these occasions had added extra enthusiasm to the celebrations and allowed us to further consolidate our excellent bilateral relations, which so happily exist between our two countries,’ she said.

Hasina recalled with gratitude the support rendered by the government and the people of India during the Liberation War in 1971 that set the foundation of a unique relationship.

The joint celebration of Moitri Dibosh, across the globe, held on December 6, the day when India recognised Bangladesh as a sovereign and independent State in 1971, projected this special relationship, she said.

‘The unique ties of close friendship, cooperation, and trust between our two countries have flourished and grown from strength to strength in recent years. Many new frontiers of cooperation alongside all traditional areas have been identified, particularly during the Covid-19 pandemic,’ Hasina mentioned.

She said, ‘Let this joyous occasion be a special one, as India is also celebrating ‘Azadika Amrit Mahotsav’ to mark 75 years of her independence.’

This is called, "Bohole eet, mukhe shekh Forid/বগলে ইট, মুখে শেখ ফরিদ!" Well done prime minister!

A coalition gov. between the ruling party and primary opposition is very unique. I've not seen or heard of anything like it. Has it happened in BD before?

Good question. I am not a political hack/junkie. Maybe someone more knowledgeable can venture an answer.

On a side note, we did have a Caretaker Govt. installed in the past, under which a "free" election took place, without interference from any political party. That was also unique in the subcontinent, I think. People don't even trust Caretaker Govts. anymore because EC's appointed are supposed to be influenced by AL.

It is more or less well known though - that AL will definitely not win majority if future elections are indeed "Free". Their governance is not the problem, it is rather the involvement of uneducated AL party cadres (goondas) making money using illegal means (shades of RSS/Shivsena), the almost comical personality cult around Hasina's family members (especially her father) and the use of paramilitary forces like RAB to silence the opposition.

10% of Dhaka City Corp Budget (Mr 10%)

BD is not an "Islamic country" as it is not governed by Sharia.

As corny as the statement in the thread title sounds, this is standard diplomatic speak among countries that are not outright enemies.
While a few serious issues exist between the two countries, none of them are serious enough to go to war.
You cannot keep looking at the world with your narrow India-Pakistan lense.

Although she has good feelings for Bangladesh, working good as well. But people of Bangladesh still won't vote because of her so called pro Indian position ( that's pure lie , although her party goons are purely indian stooge) , Bangladeshi people will reject her.

For the same reason they will vote Khaleda Zia ( God forbid if she contest) ; at least she always had been more popular than Hasina only because of her religion card!

So if you can keep the two family from power , my vote is for presidential form of democracy, because political party influence will be lot less unlike parliamentary form.

Specially ancient FPTP system is obsolete now outside of UK! But even without it parliamentary system won't work in Bangladesh.

Are you forgetting that India also has the same FPTP system as UK .. and this system is thriving and no one wants to change it in India.
