Bangladesh, Pakistan set to get Chinese submarines

China has also signed an agreement with Pakistan to sell two Type 035G Ming-class diesel-electric submarines to Bangladesh
China will provide submarines to Bangladesh and Pakistan, Times of India reported on Saturday.

India's submarine crisis comes just around the time China has begun arming two other neighbors, Bangladesh and Pakistan, with submarines.

China has also introduced new nuclear submarines that have caused a flutter in Washington, the report said.

Jane's weekly quoting a senior Pakistani official says China is set to sell up to six submarines to Pakistan by end of 2014. China has also signed an agreement with Pakistan to sell two Type 035G Ming-class diesel-electric submarines to Bangladesh, reports from Dhaka said recently. The New Age newspaper said the deal was valued $206 million. China has promised to deliver the submarines to Bangladesh Navy by 2019.

"Technical details are almost done. The present discussions are mainly about the financing details," a senior Pakistan official told Jane's. The journal said a second Pakistani government official confirmed that "the contract is at an advanced stage and discussions won't linger on for too long. Realistically, we should have a deal by end 2014."

Islamabad is expected to buy China's S20 or Yuan-class diesel-electric submarine (SSK). At present, the Pakistani Navy operates five French submarines; three Agosta 90B (Khalid-class) submarines purchased in the 1990s and two ageing Agosta 70 (Hashmat-class) boats dating from the late 1970s.

Pakistan's ambitious defence planners are also pushing China for selling submarine-launched nuclear ballistic missiles. But western diplomats say China may be reluctant to hand over such sophisticated equipment fearing harsh reactions from Washington.

Another of India's neighbours, Myanmar is using Chinese experts to train its submarine personnel. It also sent a contingent of navy personnel for submarine warfare training in Pakistan in mid-2013. Myanmar has announced plans to build its own fleet of submarines, and is expected to look towards Russia for supplies.
I wonder what auntie Hassina has to say about this and how can Pakistan agree to sell Bangladesh these subs? that's disgraceful.

it is just submarine 2 only nothing special and it will take until 2019 to finish it
India dont need to worry
correct me if i am wrong it is not so state of the art technology sub

Kya fark padta hai, how dare they acquire these subs without our express permission. I wish we had a leader like Putinji instead of Maunmohan , the least we could have done was to convince them into buying torpedo-less subs :(

Bangladesh will procure two submarines for its navy to build it as a ‘three-dimensional’ force.
Speaking at the commissioning of two new frigates into Bangladesh navy in Chittagong yesterday, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said the new submarines would be inducted into the navy by 2015.
“A process for induction of two submarines in the naval force has been finalised as part of the present government’s firm determination and commitment to turn Bangladesh navy into a three-dimensional force,” she said, adding: “Work on setting up the country’s biggest naval base in Ramnabad area in coastal Patuakhali district has already been launched.”
The two new frigates - Abu Bakar and Ali Haider - procured from China have replaced
two old British frigates.
Although the prime minister did not disclose the source of submarines, media reports suggested that China would be the source country.
Earlier on her arrival at the BNS Naval Base Isa Khan in Chittagong, the prime minister was received by Chief of Naval Staff Vice Admiral M Farid Habib and Commander of the Chittagong Naval Zone Rear Admiral M Akhter Habib.
The prime minister said the government has started the work on increasing necessary infrastructure for the navy including air base along with raising its war fleet.
“The issue of construction of a submarine base is under process,” she said, adding that Khulna Shipyard is building two containerships with the funding of the navy which would play an active role in the country’s economy.
She said most of the people of Bangladesh are not aware of the importance of sea and its resources. “Our naval force and Coast Guards are ensuring security of the maritime boundary by encountering various natural adversities. So despite economic constraints, the necessity of an efficient, modern and balanced three dimensional naval force is
undeniable,” she said.
Highlighting her government’s relentless stride for the development of Bangladesh navy, Sheikh Hasina said short and long term plans have already been taken to build Bangladesh navy as an
effective force by 2030.
She said the highest number of 12 ships have been added to the naval fleet during the tenure of her government. The navy has entered the new era through induction of two maritime helicopters and two maritime patrol aircraft.
The prime minister said a special force named Special Warfare Diving and Salvage (SWADS) has been commissioned for naval aviation and unconventional warfare.
Referring to the maritime victory over Myanmar, the prime minister said Bangladesh got the legal rights of the exclusive economic zone up to the 200 nautical miles of the Bay of Bengal through the win.
“I hope that Bangladesh would realise the just rights by resolving the maritime dispute with India by this year in the same process,” she said.

They should make a deal with China for 3 Submarines of S-20 class having displacement of 2100-2500 tons with AIP. Like Pakistan did with Agosta-90B, BN should also do the same by making 1st one in China and then 2nd and 3rd one in Bangladesh.
