Bangladesh has entered into a Government-to-government deal with the United Kingdom to purchase two C-130J C5 tactical transport aircraft to boost transport capabilities of its air force.

Financed under the FY 2017-2018 defense budget, Bangladesh will become the ninth operator of the C-130J C5 in Asia, bdmilitary.com reported Thursday. However, the details are not known yet.

Dhaka currently has four Lockheed C-130E Hercules aircraft and two Let L-410 Turbolet Transport aircraft in its transport aircraft fleet.

The C5 variant of the C-130J has been modified and upgraded to include new Allison AE turboprop engines and Dowty Aerospace six-bladed composite propellers. The C-130J is used for tactical operations, parachute insertions and air dispatch of cargo.

is there any info about the remaining service life of these C-130J, since RAF are selling them to BAF they may be quite old.
and BAF has 3 L-410 not 2. what about the An-32? are they going to be in service for a few more years? there was rumors about them being replaced by 3 C-27J Spartans!!! :coffee:

"As was set out in the [strategic defense and security review] last month, the UK will upgrade and extend the life of some of our C-130J Hercules aircraft, ensuring they can continue to support operations around the globe," said a British Ministry of Defence spokesman.

"Some of the aircraft will be surplus to this and retired from service over the next few years, and we are currently exploring options for their disposal."

The UK is expected to retire six of the RAF's short fuselage C-130J Mk5s on Dec. 31, 2016, and a further four on March 31, 2017. That schedule reflects the expected entry into service of the Airbus A400M transport with the RAF.


The RAF plans to retain the 14 long fuselage C-130J Mk4s, extending the operational life to 2030 from 2023.

BD's military growth is extremely noticeable nowadays

is there any info about the remaining service life of these C-130J, since RAF are selling them to BAF they may be quite old.

with maintenance, you can extend them for decades. They're superb options. IAF is extremely happy with them.

If you stick to small token reality-based purchase your prediction strike rate will be high for BD....large scale hyper-ventilating is only for: Force plan 2030 STRONK! kind of stuff :D

Is there any reporting/information on the purchase price and about the RAF responsibility of maintenance matters? Will the RAF do a cost-free maintenance at their workshops for a certain period of time?

C27J Spartans are too small and too ancient AFAIK. And are hobbled by US sanctions, most recently Venezuelan purchase was blocked.

Also fuel consumption per hour is double for C27J compared to C295.

No comparison. C295 will be the AN32 replacement and are perfect for our mission uses such as paradrop commando insertion, low altitude cargo drops and general liaison transport- unless jet options are required by mission needs.

the purchasing price is negotiable as it will be G to G, unless you are part of negotiation teams there is no way outsider get the data beforehand.

Dont expect much like free maintenance with low price to become parts of deal as the main reasons for UK to retire them early is to cut maintenance cost for their AF

16 years old then eh... pakistans c130 has been going strong for 60 years now with their in house overhauling... these are really extremely durable aircrafts.

Bangladesh is really on a defense buying spree: submarines, fighters, and now transport planes. No doubt it's all for modernization, but it seems more than that. Honestly, what mortal threat do they face?
