What's new

Bangladesh To Buy Two RAF C130J Transport Planes.

.
Why RAF selling their C-130j
To cut operational & maintainance cost. If I recall correctly they don't need as many of them anymore since their military operation in Afghanistan has ended. So they are selling the older aircraft's to save on budget.

why are we buying from RAF not from USA
US didn't followed on BAF request for C130B replacement. That's more than a decade now. You sure you want to request a directl sell of C130J from US?

is there any info about the remaining service life of these C-130J, since RAF are selling them to BAF they may be quite old.
and BAF has 3 L-410 not 2. what about the An-32? are they going to be in service for a few more years? there was rumors about them being replaced by 3 C-27J Spartans!!! :coffee:
Still plenty. The C130B BAF operates are already more than 35 years old. PAF has much older airframes in service, still going strong. These J versions are only 16-17 years old, we can still can easily churn out 20-25 years out of them. Remember these are the most advanced variants incorporating most advanced manufacturing & engineering technologies. They will serve far more effectively than it's older variants.

AN32's will continue to serve next decade to early 30's. BAF recently floated tender for major airframe overhaul & new engines for them. This shall enable them to serve 10-12 more years.

C27J Spartans are too small and too ancient AFAIK. And are hobbled by US sanctions, most recently Venezuelan purchase was blocked.

Also fuel consumption per hour is double for C27J compared to C295.

No comparison. C295 will be the AN32 replacement and are perfect for our mission uses such as paradrop commando insertion, low altitude cargo drops and general liaison transport- unless jet options are required by mission needs.
