Those who are talking about tall skyscrapers in Dhaka they should know that Government policy is not to allow buildings taller than 150 ft. The buildings those who made taller than that were lucky as somehow they managed it. During 2008-9 caretaker government tried to demolish upper floors beyond 150 ft of the building that broke the law. My mama was a senior Director of Eastern Housing. So from his own account can tell you they had to lobby a lot along with other real estate companies to halt the decision. It is only due to close proximity of the airport. Near Uttara, Khilkhet area it is not allowed build houses beyond 4 or 5 flloor. That is the reason why real estate companies are lobbying for some time to get the airport out of the city so that they can go for vertical expansion.

Regarding this Dalit idiot who is talking about consumption non stop and those who are considering him saint should know that significant of the Bangladesh’s growthcame from the bottom of the society, they came out of poverty, they spent money which they got via remittance or earned and significant of the woman who joined in the workforce to support family. Their overall consumption can be less but contribution is huge. Where as in India growth mostly comes from middle or higher middle class but condition of the Pope’s worsen more. Same goes with Pakistan as well. Bangladesh is gradually upgrading infrastructure and power plants where it was lagging. So consumption level will go up exponentially in coming years as infrastructure and power supply is getting improved. Bangladesh has already overtaken Pakistan in nominal per capita GDP and will cross in PPP term soon as well. When base year will be updated Bangladesh will almost similar with India in nominal per capita gdp and will have to see how much lagging behind in PPP term. If government can take out syndicates and middle man it will improve the situation a lot.

Its ironic that people are comparing skyscrapers here. Modern skyscrapers would not even exist if it weren't for one Bangladeshi man:

USA the greatest power on earth, is not ashamed to take ideas from anyone, so why South Asian egos stop us from recognising potential in each other? Pakistan is a benchmark for BD, like Sri Lanka and India - there is nothing personal and there is no competition.

Ps everyone seems to have worked out what a complete buffoon that troll is. Tries to hide his incompetence with tons of blabber, but his stupidity is crystal clear.

Whats with the nonsense about opening threads that you can't back it up with facts and figures or even pictures? Evey other day Bengali's have an orgasm and open up a thread about how they are surpassing Pakistan.
Check again, This thread is about Bangladesh's economic growth target, not about surpassing Pakistan. This ugly mud sliding show is happening here because you and some of other anti-Bangladeshi troll brigade jumped here to do the usual comparison thing like so many other thread. It is quite telling, Can you see any Bangladeshi forum member here are going to Pakistan's development thread in PDF and comparing with Bangladesh? A big NO, because we have no such interest to do so. But you hordes are invading every Bangladeshi thread like a pest. I wonder why? Why do Bangladesh's development or non-development bother you folks so much? Why so much underlying insecurity that you folks feel the need to troll/abuse Bangladesh like this non stop?

Dhaka has 308 high rise buildings.
Pakistan has less than 200.

Pakistanis are even funnier than Indians when they pretend to be supa pawas.

Pakistan exports hi-tech jets but have to import condoms.

There is a reason why Harvard projected long term sustainable growth rate of BD to be only 4% (based largely on actual physical consumption of important things at the larger portions of the population)...past the RMG handout (which expires soon and will deflate a lot of BD hot air here quite badly given the inflation that is seriously eroding their households already), there is nothing shaping up there to really breakout fast enough into what matters.

How is it that Bangladesh which has recently graduated from LDC category was able to secure its preferential treatment from EU and US on their RMG exports?? How long are they valid??

What will be the impact on their RMG exports when these handout are withdrawn like the ESP plus and EBA initiatives and they have to compete with India, China and Vietnam etc.

Even India and China have extended their own handouts and am sure will be withdrawn considering that it is impacting their own RMG sector competitiveness.

With most of their export basket being predominantly RMG products, BD stands vulnerable to competitive pressures. They still have some breathing room left to diversity their export basket before post handout regime kicks in. It is a great opportunity for BD to shift gears to other areas and sectors which they can stand out and compete with others.

BD will enjoy the GSP facility till 2025 in Europe. After that BD can apply for GSP+ which PK and SL enjoys, same benefit as GSP. BD does not enjoy GSP in USA yet BD is very strong in that market. So its not only the GSP which makes BD garments attractive. We already started working on FTA with several country like Turkey and USA so that our products can get preferential treatment post GSP era.

BD has a very limited export to India. It will not impact too much for overall BD export.

BD still want to grab more market share of garment which China is retracting. We have potential to sell 40 billion dollar additional textile and garment.
100 SEZ are being built and all sorts of goodies will be made in them to be exported. Dont worry and don't loose your sleep. Bangladesh is a very smart nation with lots of intellegence.

Agreed.
This is the fact that matter mostly- Bangladesh is growing slowly almost homogeneously.

Appreciate your concern but you are about five years late. US preferential quotas (GSP) were withdrawn five years ago and have not affected our exports at all - I'd say EU quotas are a non-issue as well. Diversification of exports is progressing according to plan and will gradually diminish garments exports as smaller and smaller percentage of total.

Bangladesh is far ahead of other countries and only behind China in Garments. So anyone visualizing our premature demise may be in for some disappointment.

He comes here every time with the same lousy statements and ends up being self trolled after being replied with all facts and figures. I don't usually involve in such dick measuring contest, but this particular guy is one dickhead.

The sad thing is that these mangy Sanghi retard troll pack dogs have now convinced even a group of Pakistanis to join them. But I bet most of these troll Pakistanis' views aren't shared by most sane Pakistanis. Why would Pakistanis care if we have tall buildings, excellent sewer systems or wide roads? Most Pakistanis don't.

Jealousy isn't in most Pakistanis bloods as far as I have seen. These are jealous Sanghi trolls false-flagging as always. If it waddles like a Sanghi, quacks like a Sanghi, it is a Sanghi.

The hilarious one was this Sanghi schmuck named Polaris or something that was acting like an American with two American flags, he called me a Muslim extremist....

Man - these Sanghis really know how to spawn false-flagger accounts left and right.

Ha ha ha:omghaha:

Yeah - a Muslim extremist posting revealing model shots. Ok - I admit, not during Ramadan though.

Garments is fine. But we need other industries too. But this diversification is not happening at the desired rate. We can't grow long term depending solely on RMG.

I'd like to see more manufacturing happening in Bangladesh.

Whatever, we should not fall for this trap. Pakistan is a distant country, whether they are ahead of us or not, matter little for us. If someone says Pakistan is a better, prosperous country that Bangladesh, just say 'yes, I agree', to avoid these hassle. We know very well what is our strength and what is our weakness. Make the troll brigade out of job.

Bhai,
A lot of activities happening in manufacturing sector, although mostly in Labour intensive sector. Though I am little disappointed for IT sector, the next two big names in making are leather and pharmaceutical.
We can safely add some names too, light engineering, toy , bicycle, home appliances etc.

We have to understand that RMG is not just stitching clothes, but a lot of world class backward linkage industries. And this amount to more than 7 billions export alone from backward linkage industries. I think backward linkage industries are the strength and advantage of BD which other countries cannot bit in competitiveness.

Regards.

This is what I am telling all the time. But, some naive posters from BD have tagged me as non-Bangladeshi with false flag. Every stupid would know textiles is but the initial contributor to the national economic progress and other industries must be set up before this export slows down.

China did what some of us are telling, but some Tk300 a cup of tea drinker thinks his tons of photographs of high rise buildings are a proof of BD economic progress. Construction of buildings is certainly a net contributor, because it creates employment and increases the production of many materials like cement, steel and tiles.

But, this sector is only a low level employment that must be augmented by the production in other sectors, specially, manufacturing. BD needs more and more such industries for an efficient use of its manpower.

Why do you think 100 SEZs are being set up and already countries like China, Taiwan and Japan have said their firms will move in to produce goods?
I ask you again, what is your real identity? No sane BD'shi
would talk like you.

.
Do you ever see Pakistani's opening threads about BD every day and claiming to surpass them? These surpassing threads have been going on from your side since years now.

No need to get all worked up, this is fine, they are opening threads in Bangladesh defence forum, PDF is a kind of small internet fraternity we need to make the most of it, and the title doesn't say anything about Pakistan. I've learned so much about Bangladesh and their development through these threads and about India too, or the lack of it.

Bangladesh is not the common denominator, it is India...

Lahore is all about wide and empty roads
empty roads you say.oh jealous little bengali do little research before opening that ignorant trap of yours. lahore alone got far more history than whole fish market oh i mean bangladesh combined.
Chittagong has more high-rises than Lahore.
the wide, empty roads you see are there because unlike your densely packed bangladesh we have land area to afford those wide roads and green belts.
Lahore doesn't even have a single international chain hotel.
so according to you we got not 5 star hotels in lahore.then these surely belong to chittagong but administrator must have spelled the name of the city wrong
