Bangladesh sets ship export target at 4 bln USD

Among recent locally built Navy Ships by Naval Govt. Yards, the Durjoy class LPC is notable. It is a modern fast patrol craft displacing 650 tons (a little larger than the Azmat Class). Four have been commissioned and I believe four more are planned.

Local builds of C13B Corvettes (Modified 056 class corvettes - of which Bangladesh has four) are also planned at the various naval yards, along with the indigenous frigate program (six or more planned I believe).

In order to beat the Japanese or Koreans both Bangladesh or Indonesia has to build much larger ships I think. Bangladesh for example makes medium to small ships although hopefully that changes as DAMEN is helping us get more experience with better ship building. Bangladesh however does have a lot of experience in ship building dating back to British times.

It's just Bangladesh is taking too long to start building larger ships

Actually PT PAL Indonesia can make large ship but some how they dont get as many sales as Chinese and Korean ones, I think the problem is the financing one. In the past they tried to supply ships for Western countries but they cancelled the ship order despite PT PAL has already built it, it makes them traumatize to supply ships to global market, particularly for foreign private owned companies.

Currently PT PAL INDONESIA (Persero) has mastered sophisticated production technology, to the point of being capable and experienced in producing Bulk Carrier (Bulker) vessels with a weight of 50,000 DWT, container ships up to 1,600 TEUS, tankers up to 30,000 DWT, ships AHTS up to 5,400 BHP, Long Line Tuna Fish Boat 60 GT, passenger ships up to 500 PAX. Meanwhile products that have been developed include container ships up to 2,600 TEUs, and Chemical Tanker ships up to 24,000 LTDW.

They propose Indonesian Navy with their Helicopter carriers for so long but Navy hasnt ordered any

Oh that's cool , I guess they don't want to get into heavy competition with the Japanese or Koreans I mean Indonesia can do it. Hmm is Indonesia going eventually change their mind start exporting larger ships ?

PT PAL looks like still focus on domestic market and only enter tender made by sophisticated foreign private owned companies or foreign country navy. They are now more on heavy industry and produce other products not related to shipbuilding.

Private owned shipbuilding companies also still run quite well and mostly seek domestic market.
