What's new

Bangladesh Per capita income now $1314

You sound a little butt-hurt dude.

BD would be way,way wealthier than India if it was not for the fact that BD only got it's independence in 1971, a full 24 years behind India.

BD needs to start preparing itself for the coming onslaught of poverty-stricken Indians to an increasingly prosperous BD.

BD is just as wealthy as Pakistan these days on a per-capita basis. We already live 3-4 years longer than the average Pakistani.

The figures you are quoting for BD electricity generation capacity do not take into account the widespread use by industry of generators. Add on an extra 2-3 GW by this method and you would get a more truer measure of total generating capacity of BD. Also you forget that the Pakistan military uses far more electricity than the much smaller BD one and that also somewhat accounts for the discrepancy.

I wish that Pakistan does well but currently it is no match economically for BD, whose economy can grow 6.5% a year even with widespread industrial strife.
Are you out of your mind Dish washer ?

@farhan_9909 : I think that Pakistan should use BD GDP/capita as a base level and make sure that BD cannot surpass Pakistan in that category. If it achieves that then it means that Pakistan is doing well economically.

To do that they will need to grow at least at the same rate as Bangladesh, which does not look like happening. Bangladesh percapita GDP will most likely surpass Pakistan in the next 3-4 years time and accelerate further from then on.

. . .
If Pak GDP is now $250b and keeps on growing 4% per year then BD will take over that in 12 years increasing at a rate of 6.5%..

that sound like a physics formula, if X stays constant than speed of light is y

 Godspeed
According to my math after 12 years BD GDP will be around $410b and Pak $400b :D

.
BD will increase in ICT sector, Textile, Leather, Manpower export, Pharmaceuticals, Agriculture, Fisheries, Ship building, Electronics and other light Engineering. When the Padma Bridge and Chittagong 8 lane is completed they will atleast contribute 1-2% in GDP. By 2021 power generation will reach 20,000MW And by 2030 40,000 MW. They will also add 1-2% in GDP. China, Korea, Japan are already sending its works to BD and FDI of other countries. Even Pakistani, Indian and Srilankans are setting up factories in BD. So BD growth isnt gonna stop. We have only concern which is political turmoil. So far what BD achieved is by under performing, it can also grow at a rate of 10% too. We are greedy people :D

In Pak's case I wish it best. But with terrorism, lack of education and bad health care Pak's situation is worse. You may be have a good future in heavy industry but not in light sectors. So I dont know from where Pak's future growth will come.

you should not compare BD with Pakistan, no one could understand Pakistan economy even the world economists have finally given up after predicting when is Pakistan economy is going to collapse for last two decades, yet everytime I go there I see people spending more than before, bazars are crowded with people buying everything thats availalbe in Canada and things that are not even available in Canada. But good luck to BD.

We are not in direct competition with BD and if BD surpass us,we will be happy for you but unlike BD,Pakistan faces lots of security and geographical challenges.

I am even optimistic for double digit growth rate. This much of investment will do wonders for Pakistan

The best thing Pakistan can do is let the Pashtuns on the Western Frontier Province breakaway. The Pashtuns are a huge drain on the economy.

Countries can measure their GDP and per capita income their own way. End of the day BD annual budget is now around $32b and Pak $40b. And 1tk=1.31pkr. How far are we. Smaller bangla smaller population.

@farhan_9909 Dude, since you like playing with numbers wanna ask you some calculations.

Temme, when was the last census taken place in Pakistan? And since then till now how much per decade growth do you think must have happened. You can get it online. Some unofficial figures by different groups and then how much do you think today's Pakistani population is?

Will be interesting and informative too. By da way I am an Mba grad and hence have a good hold on economics and numbers. We can have a good trade of economical gyan if you like.

GDP isn't everything. I'd rather Bangladesh decreased in population size to around 100 million or so. Given the size, I think it will afford a better living standard. It's better to have $200bn shared between 100mn rather than 150mn. Good family planning measures and a more educated people should result in population growth rate slowing down.

By the way, note that GDP figures need to be compounded.
