What's new

Bangladesh Per capita income now $1314

Maharashtra can surely have a nominal gdp of over $200 billions but not Mumbai. East Maharashtra being very poor doesn't really prove that Mumbai's got the entire GDP of the state.

Actually - it makes perfect sense. Pretty much all of India's top companies are HQed in Bombay. Its port is the busiest in the country. Heck, neighboring Pune has a GDP of about $50 billion.

.
Oops that is my mistake.

yup...
that is why east MH is very very poor (Marathwad and vidharbha) .... That is THE hotspot for farmer suicides.
and NO the figure is Nominal.... also some firms having HO Mumbai and plants in other parts of MH is *sometimes* counted in mumbai due to *regulatory* reasons.

Actually the latest figure of the TOTAL GDP of the whole of Maharashtra is 250 billion dollars. That means that the rest of Maharastra outside Mumbai shares a measly 12 billion dollars according to that Indian poster. Are you telling me that people outside Mumbai have only 120 dollars GDP capita on average?

I think a better figure for nominal GDP of Mumbai would actually be around 100 billion US dollars.

Mumbai GDP is more than what is done in Mumbai simply because lots of firms have head offices there. So if you have a plant in Pune but HO in mumbai. It's counted (depending on the industry). So that makes it hard to predict.

Although this Bombay GDP figure is fake,I want to ask our Indian friend one question.According to IMF in 2015,Entire Indian GDP is 2308 billion USD for 130 crore peoples, and Indians are claiming Mumbai account for 227 billion or around 10 percent of the entire indian GDP,while Mumbai contain mere 18 million or 1.5 percent of total population.

Think about that,1.5 percent population claiming 10 percent of income of the entire country. So when we says India is a country of 100 super rich and 100 crore destitute people on the brink of starvation, why you deny it?What so great about boasting Bombay GDP when millions of your countrymen are dying in hunger?

Larger cities contribute more to GDP as cities host head offices of the companies. Tax are also paid through these offices only.

Do you have any example of things happening other way around ? What, according to you is the norm here ?

Lol BD is at 200 billion.

No way does Mumbai have over 200 billion nominal. Maybe in PPP though. Otherwise Mumbai would look similar to Kuala Lumpur.
Actually Bangladesh has passed 200 billion mark in the last year.According to latest IMF calculation Bangladesh's GDP in 2015 is 205.327 billion USD. According to Govt figure it is 220 billion usd now.38 billion dollars budget constitute 17.2 percent of GDP,now calculate...

I was rounding down to 200 billion to make it simple.

It is possible that we might hit $300bn a year earlier than previous predictions. I think we can do it by 2019 if we improve our growth rate to about 7-8%.

It is possible to hit 300 billion by 2019 at current 6-7% a year growth rate.

Remember there will soon be a re-basing of GDP to the 2011-2012 base year, which will add many tens of billions to BD's GDP.

$70-$100 billion seems a reasonable number, again, these all are speculations. It's really inane to compare the GDP of a city with that of a country since both are derived from different calculations altogether.
