Bangladesh, Pakistan support Indonesian proposal
Nusa Dua, Bali (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian draft resolution calling for the withdrawal of the US troops from Iraq is gaining stronger support from delegates at the 116th meeting of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) here after Bangladesh and Pakistan (and possibly followed by Hungary) support the Indonesian proposal.
On the sixth day of the IPU meeting which will last until Friday, the IPU commissions` sessions on Thursday, entered the final drafting of a resolution and formulated a presidential recommendation on the Indonesian draft resolution proposal.
On Thursday morning, Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) Agung Laksono, in his capacity as President of the IPU General Assembly me with the Hungarian delegation.
The Hungarian delegation said it would study the Indonesian draft resolution proposal on the call for the withdrawal of the United States troops from Iraq.
During the bilateral meeting which was held at the Bali International Convention Center (BICC), chairman of the Hungarian delegation, Gabor Hars, said the regional group of the IPU would discuss first the Indonesian draft proposal.
"We hope that the Hungarian Parliament would support the Indonesian proposal in the IPU session," Agung Laksono said.
Agung had previously held talks with the Bangladeshi Parliament Chairman Muhammad J. Sircar, where the latter expressed his support to the Indonesian initiative.
The DPR chairman said that Indonesia thanked Bangladesh for its support to the Indonesian proposal for the pull-out of the US troops from Iraq.
In the meantime, at a separate meeting, Sardar Mohammad Yaqoob who led the Pakistani delegation said Pakistan fully supported the Indonesian initiative. The Indonesian draft resolution contained call for the withdrawal of the US troops and matters on global climate change.
Agung told the press the relations between Indonesia and Pakistan, which include political, social, defense and security issues had been carried out well.
Pakistan always supported and cooperate with Indonesia in international forums, Agung said.
"Therefore, the DPR hopes that both sides would a bilateral cooperation group between the Pakistani parliament and its Indonesian counterpart," Agung said.(*)
