I had posted some comments under the news.... the DS replied me, but they seemed even unsure what "off-the-shelf" actually meant!!... the problem is, the people reporting there had absolutely no knowledge about defence industry.... my last question in reply to their ambiguous answer went unanswered.....

DS is a BAL mouthpiece and it's journalism is poor is every field not only defence, I would not put much credence to what they say.

I'm pretty certain that these corvettes are designed to carry 8 C-704.... take a look at the PNS Azmat.... it carries as many as 8 C-802s, though it looks pretty odd with those massive canisters almost overwhelming the small ship.... our corvettes can easily carry 8.... the trend in BN shows that most ships are being put to sea with no more than 4 SSMs, including the BNS Bangabandhu and BNS Osman... this could be a strategy to keep our local competitors guessing....

PNS Azmat.... take a look at those 8 massive canisters....

BNS Durjoy.... the whole deck is almost empty!!.... think about the potential here.... its grossly underutilised.... the C-704 is less than half the size of C-802.... the potential is huge!!... its the same for the Castle-class as well...

BNS Durjoy is 650 ton corvette? while PNS AZMAT class is a 600 ton stealth FAC (M) (Fast Attack Craft) almost same in displacement.. BNS joy carries C-704 with 35 km range... PNA Azmat class carries C-802A or AKG with 180 KM or 280 KM range... PNS Durjoy speed:28 knots.. PNS Azmat class 30knots..

Also you said something abt its speed well.. 30 knots is actually the speed of standard FACs... there role isnt to infiltrate into hostile territory but secure areas... yes they can be used to attack CGs but with support from other assets like jets,ships etc.... also they have datalink capability besides radar and if they see a threat they return to base...

hmm.... its actually the difference in roles sought by different armed forces.... a long-range SSM platform needs help from other floating or aerial platforms to be able to fire its missiles from a stand-off distance.... its own radars are only effective as far as the horizon would allow.... combat datalink is crucial in this case.... it seems somewhat like a compromise when you see a ship of this size carrying 8 missiles of that size.... but, anyway, if it serves its purpose, nothing else matters.... if the ship was designed to operate under own air assets, it may not need 30kt+ speeds..... the range of its SSMs are supposed to do the job.....

BN, on the other hand, has opted for a different approach.... because BN is keeping in mind the large number of missile FACs it may encounter..... C704 is more appropriate for this role.... these ships are more likely to accompany other ships in the flotilla or fill the civilian ship escort role during crisis...

BD has purchased 2 Type-053 H2 from China which will be refitted and then have the same capability as the F-22P that Pakistan has.

Will the Patualkhali base hold the Naval strike squadron??And will that be operated by airforce or will it be Naval aviation wing?
