Oct 21, Colombo: Sri Lanka Navy, in accordance with naval traditions, welcomed a Bangladesh naval ship arrived at the Port of Colombo Tuesday.
The Bangladesh naval ship "Abu Bakr" arrived at the Port of Colombo on Tuesday 20th October 2015 on a four-day goodwill visit, the Navy said.
The ship was welcomed on arrival by the officials from the High Commission of Bangladesh and the Sri Lanka Navy in accordance with naval traditions.
The Commanding Officer of the ship, Captain Mohammad Mahmudul Malek paid a courtesy call on the Commander Western Naval Area, Rear Admiral Jayantha De Silva at the Western Naval Command Headquarters in Colombo Tuesday. They held cordial discussions and exchanged mementos as a gesture of goodwill.
The ship's crew is scheduled to take part in a friendly basketball match at the Welisara Naval base to show their solidarity and enhance the long standing friendship. Fifty Sri Lanka Navy personnel will be welcomed onboard on the 2nd day of the ship's stay in Sri Lanka.
The visiting ship will stay in Sri Lanka until 23rd October.

(Colombo, Lankapuvath) - Sri Lanka Navy (SLN), in accordance with naval traditions, welcomed a Bangladesh Naval ship "Abu Bakr" arrived at the Port of Colombo, Tuesday (20) on a four-day goodwill visit, the Navy said.



The ship was welcomed on arrival by the officials from the High Commission of Bangladesh and the Sri Lanka Navy in accordance with naval traditions.

We should increase military cooperation.
There is a lot of cooperation in Economic side but it should be expanded as well

BNS Abu Bakr (F15) is a Type 053H2 (Jianghu III class) vessel of Chinese Navy origin.

Type 053H2 (NATO codename Jianghu-III)
Designed on an enlarged Type 053 hull, and displayed European influence. Considered the first "modern" Chinese frigate with airtight cabins, central air conditioning, NBC protection, and integrated combat system (British CTC-1629/Chinese ZKJ-3A). The sonar for Jianghu-III is EH-5, a development of earlier SJD-5 used on Jianghu-II, with integrated circuits replacing transistors. Armed with two four-box missile launchers, carrying YJ-8 or YJ-82 surface-to-surface missiles (SSM), and four Type 79A 100mm guns in two two-gun turrets. Three were in service with the East Sea Fleet in 1997.[20]
