. .
Thats is also targeting India as India is the only country in BOB operated submarine.
Next time Modi going to rush to Dhaka seeing the helicopters.

. .
Tender of procuring two Anti Submarine and Anti Surface warfare capable helicopters for Bangladesh Navy has been released.
.
From the day of signing the contract the helicopters will have to be delivered within 24 months of the contract.
.
Some interesting facts:
--------------------------------------
• X-band radar
• Dipping sonar
• Integration with Otomat Mk II SSM
• Possible acquisition of Sea Venom SSM
• A244-S Mod 3 to be main air-launched torpedoes
• Mk 11 depth charges
• To be supplied with HMG

• Integration with Otomat Mk II SSM

That's an interesting requirement. Must be a large helo Bangladesh is after. I'm not sure a Lynx or Z-9 would be able to carry an Otomat, which is similar in size to Harpoon and slightly larger then Exocet.

Penguin is more suited for smaller helos, but is a bit old now.

Otomat would look a bit like this on a helicopter, just a tad larger then these Exocet missiles.

• Possible acquisition of Sea Venom SSM

Probably a better helicopter mounted anti-ship/land-attack option then Otomat if Bangladesh is looking at a small helo like Lynx.

It's similar to the Naval Hellfire.

I think they may be talking about two scenarios.

  1. a medium-sized Helo able to carry the sea venom, launched from the Helo and also
  2. This same Helo "having integration with" a launched OTOMAT (probably from a naval vessel because of the size of the OTOMAT missile). A few Bangladesh frigates already carry the OTOMAT.

So this means, the OTOMAT is launched from a frigate and then the TV footage is linked/streamed to gunners in the Helo via encrypted or non-jammable signal who can then guide the OTOMAT to the target or make corrections as necessary during 'sea-skimming' or terminal 'pop-up' phases before impact. This may make sense because the Helo gunner will have a better vantage point at altitude anyway.

Would such a scenario exist and if so what medium sized Helo could cover this role?

Most probably not.

AgustaWestland AW159 Wildcat was being talked about previously but I don't know what the choice is right now. Bangladesh Navy is already a customer of Helos from this vendor.

This is probably the best ASuW platform derived from the BAe Lynx. The Lynx is the top example, the leaner-looking new Wildcat is in the bottom.

No, the Indian defense minister Probhu is in Dhaka and the DGFI has intentionally chosen the timing of his visit to float a tender to acquire two offensive helicopters. Probhu will go back empty handed essentially.

@Bilal9, you or some one else kindly teach me about the capability of an offensive Helo to defend itself from an oncoming missile in a war zone over the sea? Or, a Helo is only good for the land-based wars?

No - an offensive naval Helo is primarily used to hunt Submarines and guide/command missiles to target IMHO. If the Helos are based on say frigates and destroyers then the range is not as big a factor.

Larger Helos transport personnel (Chinook for the US Marines for example) from shore to ship, however those aren't offensive Helos.

The best defense an offensive Helo has against missile attacks is decoy flares (see below). The heat (and luminance) signatures of the flares fool the missile sensors because their heat signatures are higher than any internal heat signature the Helo itself has (for example the turbine jet exhausts). As a result the missiles cannot hit Helos as targets.
