A middle-aged Bangladesh man was killed Sunday morning in capital Dhaka after his leptop "burst into flames" leaving him critically injured on the spot, police said.

Farukuzzaman, sub-inspector of Dhaka's Mirpur police station, said that doctors at Dhaka Medical College Hospital declared

Ahmed Shawkat Masud dead after he was rushed there at about 6:30 a. m. (local time).

Quoting relatives, he said Masud, a senior bank official turned businessman recently, died after his laptop "burst into flames", setting his clothes and the bedsheet on fire, seriously burning him.

Eyewitneses saw smoke coming out of Masud's laptop, brand name of which has not been known immediately, said Farukuzzman who uses single name.

The body of the 43-year-old man, also a nephew of Bangladesh's Minister of State for Law, Qamrul Islam, has been sent for an autopsy to determine the cause of death, he said adding it was not known immediately what causes the laptop to burst into flames.

The South Asian nation of about 153 million people is now about 100 percent dependent on other countries for import of computers and laptops.

Well, a friend told me that not too rarely coffee makers cause fires and burn down houses. Anything with electricity flowing through it can malfunction.
But how sad to read about this guy's death...

.
maybe he was spending way too much time on Bangladesh section here  , anyways, me he RIP.

Flames? lol highly dubious..

a Li-ion tht has contaminated electrolytic shell can react to heat up red hot...but the fuses and plastic body that is fire retardant give a less than 1% chance of them catching fire and tht to is just a probability...ppl dying? not possible.

what was he sleeping on lighter fuel? highly dubious. even if cotton catches fire it doesn't remain lit for long and chars instantly.

This is what has been said by the fire man and police regarding the incident...

Senior fire service official Anwarul Hoque and Mirpur's Deputy Commissioner of Police Imtiaz Ahmad visited the scene in the afternoon.

They confirmed they did not find any sign of the fire originating from any electric problems or from the laptop.

They could not confirm immediately how the fire started and said they will wait for reports.

Compaq always made bad laptops.

My friends bought Compaq before HP takeover of compaq, most of them have to visit service center once in a 6 months. The quality improved a lot after HP bought it.
